My First BathHouse Experience

Have you been to a bathhouse before? In this Part One video, I talk about the first time I visited a gay bathhouse. I was 19 years old and a college sophomore in Los Angeles. I seem to let curiosity lead most of my way.

Great story, Del! I rented a “room” at a bath house for 8 hours (overnight) in a city where I had a job interview the next day. Cheaper than a motel, nice shower, cute boys, movies and interesting conversations in neighboring rooms. No regrets!

To be 19 again, even to be 29, or 39. I know I don't understand, but it always surprises me when someone says they felt 'bad' about going to a bath house, or getting that blue ball released.

I had a lot of fun in the bath houses in L.A many years ago, when there were quite a few. I was terrified at first also. As you said, there isn't a lot of talking, but I did end up making a couple of lifelong friends from encounters there. I know the place you're talking about, it was never my favorite - too many stairs, lol. My heyday was 20-30 years ago, most of them are long gone, but I had some fun and memorable times.

I had heard about bath houses in my youth, but I was in my early 30's the first time I checked one out, and that was only because a guy that I was interested in wanted to go. It really wasn't a place I was comfortable or what I wanted, and I decided to leave and let my companion do his thing.

I always felt safe and comfortable in the bathhouse, because it was the only place I could be the real me. There were some really cool guys there too.

I think my very first bath house experience was when I was all of 18 or 19. I was enlisted in the US Air Force and got to attend the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA. Very nice area. You would think a too small city for a bath house? Wrong! In 1980 to 1981 while I was there, I found a bath house I went to probably 4 or 5 times. It was a walk from the post, but it was on the second story of something like a mechanics shop. Fairly small. Just maybe a dozen rooms, a steam room, sauna. Being young and dumb, didn't know the ropes. But I did experience my very first time getting my butt munched. Awesome!

Was this the one that closed after COVID? Old hotel in a bad part of LA? If so i was there in 2006. My first time and I was about 51

Was the bathhouse at the edge of downtown LA? Did it have indoor parking nextdoor?

Cute and funny video. The interesting thing is that your experience is not too different from some young gay guys who go to a bathhouse for the first time. It can be intimidating the first time because you're not quite sure of the etiquette or what to expect.

Where was this place? A lot of bath houses have closed down even before Covid. I wonder if this one is still open.

I had a ton of fun in Dallas. It was my first time and I made the mistake of getting in the swing and a line formed I got more than I could handle but it was amazing and I did get a room which is nice. I went with low expectations just trying to enjoy the services and everything just kind of happened. I have heard the horror stories and i get it but my experience was wild fun and memorable. I moved and don't have one close. Wish I did. The black room was wild you don't know who is who and if you're into that it would be crazy fun. I agree though I felt wierd after the first time thinking damn was all that real lol. After I came to my senses I knew it was an amazing experience.

The era of "The Tubs" in the 1970's and 1980's and 1990's were their thriving times. I went with some friends when I was in university and realized it was not my place. Friends convinced me to accompany them again so I did and I had more fun talking with people in a Jacuzzi instead of having sex. (totally unrelated to this video but your hair looks fantastic)

1350 club, Long Beach Calif. 1974 till 1980. Steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, TV room, Orgy room, swimming pool on the roof, lots of great times there. Also Glens Turkish baths, Wilmington Calif. I sure miss the 70s...

I Love the bath houses, in fact I met my Husband at Club Houston 26 years ago !
