John Reginald Halliday Christie

At 10 Rillington Place, John Christie committed the murders of several women, including his own wife these women were boarded up in his house and some in his garden. Tragically, Timothy Evans and his wife also resided in the building's upper flat. The wrongful conviction and subsequent execution of Timothy Evans for the death of his wife and baby significantly contributed to the eventual abolition of capital punishment in the United Kingdom.

I have seen the old movie 10 Rillington place. One of Richard Attenborough's really great performances. It is chilling and still stands up today.

I remember watching 10 Rillington Place as a kid back in 1971 and thinking what a repulsive man Christie was.
Later I came to admire how well Attenbourough had played the part.
THEN I discover that Christie was my grandfathers cousin (on my mothers side).
One of my cousins, again on my mothers side, has been researching the family tree.
After detailing the Christie branch, she started another branch which led to a point where a relative married into the Sutliffe family in Halifax.
She didn't bother going any further down that branch !!!

True story: One of my great uncles was arrested on the suspicion of being Christie, on that day that the man himself was arrested in London. The Met were given a description of Christie and were told to apprehend anyone who looked like him, and that happened to my Great Uncle!
To be fair, the poor sod did look like him... Anyway, they carted him off to the station, quite roughly, he always said, and he was there for a while until a relative could come and conclusively prove he wasn't Christie.
Not much of a story, but there it is.

The narration and presentation of the facts are simply CHILLING! Christie was simply calculating and a psychopath....The narration of the Evans/Child presentation was harrowing.... May the entire family rest in peace ❤

I lived close to Rillington Place and my parents told me that Christie was a keen photographer. My dad said that children would often take negatives to Christie, who would develop them.

Christie was a cruel, repellant man with no redeeming qualities. When he was led to the gallows, he complained his nose itched. Alfie Pierrepont wryly remarked: "I can assure you,
it won't bother you for long." 10 Rillington Place captures Christie in his true, sleazy grift. Richard Attenborough was utterly brilliant as this odious serial killer.
