Good tutorial man, thanks! I do a lot of photo mischief, putting people into strange places or swapping faces and stuff, but I always used to use the "polygonal lasso" tool to just delete the background, or the "magic eraser" if the background is plain enough. Masks seem to be a much more versatile way of doing this kind of thing though. I should've learnt about them a long time ago! After that I'd normally just use the "photo-filters" and other tone options to match the environments.

@Exploduer Check these things - make sure the brush is painting at 100% oppacity, make sure your painting with black, make sure you are painting on the correct layer mask.

Agreed, you need to make sure you are brushing black on the layer mask to hide it.

Thanks a lot. This was very helpful. I was able to get a person's face into the background and have it perfectly integrated with the foreground people using the black and white flip you talked about. Looked pretty real.
