Such a wonderful ending... I am a sucker for good endings. I know its not realistic for everything to end well all the time, but as horrible as real life can be, I wish to see everything go well for the characters I like in the movies.. I am sure some of you know what I mean to say

If anyone wants an explanation, the one I've come to understand is this:
Shoko's future determination that was caused by her Adolescence Syndrome was ended when she got the courage to believe in her future from Sakuta, going back to when it started, and finishing her "Future Dreams" homework. This ended her episode of Adolescence Syndrome and created a new, and real future that we see actualized here. Essentially, the future determinations of Sakuta, and the others helped her overcome her AS.
That way in "realtime" she never met Sakuta on the beach, so he wouldn't have to go through the pain of knowing her and having to choose between saving himself, Mai, or her.
But because the future determinations of themselves all "existed" in another reality so to speak, the quantum connection between the "realtime" and "determined" versions of Sakuta and Shoko still exists and the memories from what happened connect with both of them. Shoko and Sakuta both remember everything at once in this scene when they meet on the beach for the first time in realtime, because that place is what would be referred to as a Universal Constant for both of them. No matter what actually happens, at some point Sakuta and Shoko will meet on that beach, because they are entangled on a quantum level.
Realtime Sakuta never gained the scar, because that was a symptom/symbolism of his future heart being inside older Shoko (which manifested when he first met her), which is why he suddenly grips his chest in this scene (and why it doesn't manifest when Shoko has Mai's heart instead), because he's remembering the pain he experienced in the other reality/timeline as all the memories of her from then flood in.

Everything that happened in the Anime and Movie as we saw it was ALL the future determinations of these people through the mind of Shoko (the dreaming girl), that had yet to be observed and actualized to become "realtime". BUT, because of said quantum entanglement, Sakuta ends up having dreams of Shoko that help him in a similar way that his meeting her did, and also causes him to make the same decision to enroll in the same High School, allowing everything that happened in the anime to play out as it was determined. So even though what we witnessed was the future determination, it did end up all happening as we saw it EXCEPT for Sakuta and Shoko meeting the way they did.

Mai's quantum connection to Shoko caused her to take the child actor role in the movie about a girl that needs a heart transplant, being drawn to the role for that reason. Because the movie has the most famous child actor of the time in it, it blows up and causes Japan to become more aware of the need for donor organs. This results in there being a donor heart available for Shoko when she needs it that doesn't need to come from Sakuta or Mai, which saves her without the need for one of their sacrifice.

So everything else in the anime plays out as it did minus Shoko. Instead of the events of the movie, Sakuta and Mai have a nice, normal Christmas into New Year, and as seen in this clip they end up drawn to the beach because of their quantum connection to Shoko, where they finally meet for the first time in realtime, and this meeting causes their connection to realign, flooding Shoko and Sakuta with the memories from the other timeline, reuniting them.

It's actually fucking beautiful and it makes me cry just thinking about it.

That smile just made me cry even harder even though this is a happy ending

IDK why, but this is a happy ending why I can't still get over it

This ending alone is enough to make you binge watch the whole series, I mean I really cried when she says " you called sakuta san"

The reason why i watched this anime is to cry but despite my heart almost bursting because of the pain not a single tear has shed. What a terrible person i am.

Did not expect to have such a masterfully crafted story and characters from a "Bunny Girl" title. One of the best anime I watched. Ending is perfect in every way. I'm so glad I decided to watch this. This anime will be timeless indeed.

So basically let's say around the moment makinohara was given that assignment, she developed adolescent syndrome which allowed her to "dream of future moments of her life where she was healthy. Upon curing her adolescent syndrome on her "death bed" she awoke as a child and thanks to Mai's movie charity work, she got the heart surgery she needed to live.

It’s hard not to get teared up at that ending scene even though it is a happy ending. Especially when the credits rolls with the ending song of the series (Fukashigi no Carte) plays with Shouko and Mai’s voice actresses singing it.

I must confess when he calls for her name, the Tears come down.

I’m not sure why but the combination of Shoko saying “You called, Sakuta-san?” and fukasighi no carte right after made me cry

the movie really turned Makinohara into my favorite character of the series.. she's so precious

A girl who comes from the future to save her love, especially one who says, "I cannot do anything for you", even if it might be at the cost of her life deserves a happy ending.

In the end, Shoko also did her best. She gave a valiant effort, too.

Why does this feeling felt similar in Clannad:Afterlife Movie...it...made my soul achieve peace...

I love this scene but then it just ended. Does the light novel continue after this or did it just end here?

Ah at least I knew it is good ending.
Spoilered myself. But better. AOT and Your lie in April really gives me days of sleepless.

Damn, i really thought it's gonna be sad ending cuz a lot of comments from other videos says that the anime and movie are depressing. I actually prepared myself to see sad ending but i'm glad it's not. It's nice to see a movie or series without knowing how things gonna play out..
