I realize this video is over a year old but I just discovered a bloke down in Florida that may have developed a method to block SHB from entering the hive. Jeff Willard - he has a Facebook page. I'm building his device so no first hand knowledge at this point.

Hi David, sorry just caught your talk really informative thank you. I'm in Australia and will be starting Bee Keeping very soon, my question is how do SHB enter, do they fly in and enter via the landing board? if so can they crawl up the outside of the hive and enter through air vents under the top cover. I'm looking at investing in a Beetle Buster Board that has been developed here, they have an interesting take on how the beetle moves.

hello, Umm at like 34, 24 I had to stop. Just want to ask. Why not put a pan of so kind under the whole bee hive that is filled with a little water or oil. That way when they leave the hive. They fall in to it and drown? How do they get in there to start with? Why not use the rustoilium spray paints to treat the hives that they can not get in so easy?

Could those plastic hives be constructed so that the beetles would have no place to hide from bees, nothing to crawl under?

hmm I just thought of some thing. Even if we do come up with a solution for the problem. Why? some one else will reap the benefits. But if you stop to think about it, just a little. It really isnt that hard. like umm prevent em from getting in and if they do get in. Stop them when they try to get out. Its not a rocket science .

Best DEFENSE is a BADDEST BEES QUEEN THAT RIPS SHB LEGS OFF and throws em outta Hive, Soldiers go hunting cells looking for them, for real. They Don't like Varroa Mites either, or wasp. I have pics of my bees with Shb leg in her mouth (ripped off) and holding shb.On way to Chuck it, other bees try to steal it so they can MAUL it lol. I think they get bored and go hunting ..in numbers
