Prime Inc. Truck Drivers RAGE over AI Driver-Facing Cameras

There is a lot of controversy surrounding Prime’s May 10th announcement about inward facing cameras. Several drivers have threatened to leave Prime. Many drivers are turned off from coming to this company. Company drivers are not the only ones to deal with the cameras. Lease AND Owner Operators are required to have AI cameras on their truck. This has sparked outrage in the Prime community. Inward Facing cameras are unpopular among truck drivers. However, motor carriers are slowly shifting to adopting this technology. Will this lead to a mass resignation in the trucking industry? Is it all a scheme to replace all truck drivers? Let me know your thoughts and feelings in the comments down below.

My dispatcher is routing me to the terminal to get one installed; what he doesn’t know is that I plan on quitting 😂. I just reserved a u-haul truck to pack up my stuff and head home.

Most of us older drivers don't want a electronic version of Barney Fife with us harassing us for every little thing.

I’m a lease driver and I just told my dispatcher that I’m leaving in a few weeks.

This isn’t about reducing insurance premiums.

Prime is self-insured. It has no insurance premiums.

Samsara currently runs AI cameras and I almost lost my job last week yelling at my safety manager over it. It went off because I was "looking at my dash too long" but I was keeping an eye on my air due to a leak. Sure enough, I get the phone call. I fuckin lost it. I understand for insurance purposes, but these paycheck justifying bobber heads that never once stepped foot in a truck are using it to nitpick every single aspect of your driving and micromanage. It literally ruins the most important element of solo driving and that is being left the fuck alone!

I started with Prime in 2016 and left last month over these cameras. I went to Crete for .64 cpm. They have cameras here too but only put them in the trucks of problem drivers. If the driver doesn't have any issues for 90 days then they'll remove it plus they lose all bonuses and their yearly raise.

I just told the Prime recruiter that I'm not going to be signing up with theme and the reason is due to the inward facing camera announcement. For OTR drivers, having video/audio being recorded inside the cab is an invasion of privacy.

Prime is self insured and that's dangerous in itself. I worked for Navajo Express in 2018 and they are self insured. We didnt have cameras in lease trucks. They did say that if a company driver wrecks a trailer that everyone in the fleet to include lp and o/o would have to run harder and have money taken out of our checks to pay for that trailer. We left because of this because i shouldn't have to pay for something else that someone else damaged. Stay away from Prime and other companies like this.

Mega companies know you drivers will never quit. Mega companies like prime are extremely cocky. They think of all of you as dumb disposable steering wheel holders who they can walk all over

Those two drivers are real boot lickers. As long as their is no Union, the company will continue to step on drivers.

Me and my wife drove for prime as a team for a year before we had enough… and even at that point a couple years ago they had to stop recruiting in certain areas because they bit off more then they could chew and had too many drivers and not enough loads and I agree that this is their next step to force drivers out and keep potential driver from applying… great video

I would not work for any trucking company with inward facing cameras, that's micromanaging at it's finest, hell no.

Inward-facing cameras should be a CHOICE in the industry. I'm a company driver for a small Chicago carrier and I chose to buy my own inward and outward-facing cameras. Since the pandemic we've seen the worst of the worst on our public roads.

I’ll leave my current 20 year employer if they ever install inward facing cameras, it’s bad enough that I have to put up with an auto transmission and all of the collision mitigation bullshit. I don’t see how any of it makes me a safer driver when I already have a 35 year perfect safety record, I find them to be an annoying distraction. Trucks have always had collision mitigation systems, they used be called good drivers.

We need to get enough drivers to sign an agreement to take off for three days. And all do it at the same time. Have an attorney notify Prime that if they don’t cease the Netradyne roll out immediately there will be a work stoppage of X, 000 drivers in one week. When Prime ignores it (and they will) everyone takes three days off. Then have the attorney go back and tell them again to pull Netradyne or in one week X, 000 drivers will be quitting.

Prime has a history of dishonesty. They were successfully sued by OOIDA years ago for violating the “truth” in leasing regulations. So I wouldn’t believe them on what their intentions were but regardless they are choosing to go that direction. The only way to stop it is if enough 1099 contractors and/or hired carriers say NO! Trust me if enough of their drivers say NO and mean it and are willing to walk away they will backtrack. It’s all about two things: defense against accident lawsuits and winning favor with the FMCSA. It might lower their catastrophic accident insurance rate but otherwise they are like all the big carriers, self insured.

They should put a camera facing everyone in the office and one that monitor them at home. Inward facing cameras are not a good thing for the trucking industry.

It’s not that bad honestly. I noticed my sunglasses reduced the alerts significantly

I'm a retired driver, but I enjoy checking out the various videos concerning trucking. I simply say thanks for an awesome straight forward video. I look forward to hearing from you very soon. God bless you and stay safe...

The thing that NOBODY who does these videos dont mention (I believe they dont know about it), is the fact that Biometric Identifiers are being recorded and stored. This is the information that is used to identify you with Facial Recognition Systems.
