Hi everyone. Understanding the principles of design and how elements work together is very important to all artists, regardless of your skill level. But those aren't the end-all and be-all in painting. Above all, you need to find your artistic voice.

In this video, I'm going to ask you some questions to help you find your unique artistic voice, some techniques to develop it further, and some tips to remain true to your artistic voice, once you find it.

Let me know in the comments if you've found your unique artistic voice and how it's helped with your paintings"

Hugs,
Gwen

I really appreciate this, but I'm vocal about politics. In the sense that I don't believe in government. But what I value is people, nature, and simplicity in life. So I I tend to portray those things. Not what I'm against. I think that it's like going toward those things you want, just like your ideal art career. It's not inauthentic. It's simply leaning into your desires. Wonderful insights, much appreciated ❤

I sure like your common-sense way of explaining things in your talks as well as the things you say while you paint. Thanks!

Hi Mrs advice, great videos....I discovered your channel from the video on how to take a realistic subject and make an abstract painting: I think you are one of the very very few that dealt with that subject: I have been asking that to myself my all from that I was able to understand other concepts like abstract color and and abstract art overall, which I could never figured out! God bless you

I was silenced by my narcissistic mother at a very young age. I've been painting all of my life as a consequence and still feel like I haven't found my artistic voice and I'm 65 years old.

To me, art is an ESCAPE from toxic politics.

The artist who caters to clients of one political persuasion risks alienating clients on the opposite end of the political spectrum.

I love nature and landscapes. They fascinate me.

Great - thank you. I understand all that. But I have different “ style” I do not have a signature. One single voice.
Is it possible to express oneself through different ways ( sharp collages / impressionistic intuitive landscapes, portraits, Matisse like figures..) at one time it seems to be who I want to be. As a bad consequence you cannot recognize that I am the owner of a piece of work. ... lost into this dilemma...help..

Artists evolve (Picasso had his "blue" period followed by his cubist period.

Asking an artist to maintain a consistent "voice" for years on end is something akin to asking Jim Carrey to go back to doing comedy.

Artists want challenges. We're human. We get bored doing the predictable same old, same old stuff. There are times when we want to do something new.
