My sister got tired of working (she actually always hated to work), so she retired at age 62, fully understanding she would receive a 30% lower SS check. She actually believes that when she turns 67, she will then automatically begin receiving a check commensurate with retiring at age 67! I told her no, you’ll get no larger a check than what you’re receiving, and to please confirm with the SS Administration. She insists that I’m trying to confuse her, and refuses to pick up a part-time job to build up her savings/investment. Her plan? Move in with her adult children - all of whom she kicked out of the house at age 16 to support themselves. SMH

If you start taking SS money at age 62, you can’t work and make more than 20 some thousand dollars a year once you start taking SS money. That’s not a lot to live off on unless your SS money at age 62 is a boatload which means all through your working life you were making over 100K the majority of your 35 years of working.

I don't understand why so many Americans need/want to collect SS.

You must start collecting at 62 because you'll gain more money over time..😊 here's the thing the other reason to start collecting at 62 is because once you turn 67 the clock starts ticking and you don't know how much longer you have left
