and not many people have 4K monitors.

4K resolution will continue to be optimized, leading to higher FPS count for amazing GPU setups such as this.

The performance gain is so little and honestly it don't make sense me spend a few hundreds on another GPU 

I would love another 980 just so it can look sexy in my rig 2 Cards always look sexier than one card <3

have 2 way setup this is pretty damn insane i don't think you need a 4 way sli setup unless you have some serious money or if your doing high designing or some short

1600W is overkill for four Maxwell-based cards.  PCper did a 4-way 980 SLI review and the power consumption on load was only 689w.

2 GPUs is the most optimal setup. I'm using 2 GTX 970s.

There is no need to use 4x MSAA at the resolution of 4k, and suggesting 4k at this date and age for gaming isn't practical.
The release of Asus's 4k ips monitor with Gsync will open a new door for 4k gamers, the fact that Gsync will help dramatically when inevitably your FPS drops to the mid 40-50s.

One last think to point out, if your willing to watercool your Maxwell GPUs..this will also substantially increase your frame-rates.

Practical for some..this remains to be.

Neraly $3k for all 4 when they were first release. Now you can get all 4 for about $1k used...
