Would I buy a John Deere 2025r AGAIN? [after 9 years of owning one]

I try and be honest and answer the question would I buy a John Deere 2025r today in 2022. In the video, I try and answer questions about how it works when using a Tarter 5' tiller, a Frontier 4' box blade, the lifting capacity of the front end loader, mowing the lawn on hills with the 62D drive over belly mower. Does it work well with a post-hole digger from Tractor Supply?

If you are on the fence about this tractor I believe this review will answer the questions you have without any BS.

The biggest problem we have is we live on LOTS of hills and for most things above the tractor is a little underpowered when trying to do those activities on hills.

I watch a ton of tractor videos, because I just bought a house on 30 acres and I could really ise one, but know hardly anything about them. I found your video as I was looking for more information on the 2025r. Yours was the first video I've seen where it didn't sound like a sales pitch. I love the honesty, my friend. I subscribed and hope to see more content from you in the future.

Over the years I have had a 2305, 2520, 4120, and now back to a 2025r. I think the biggest issue is over the years your needs can change drastically. I appreciate the size and weight of the 2025r for what it is. Having the mid range on the transmission would help. The tractor does what it can but I probably never should have traded off the 2520. I am now considering trading the 2025r in for a 2038r. I have a track loader for heavy work and a larger tractor for field work.

when pulling up hill put some weight in the loader bucket and use the 4 wheel drive!!! I mow with a 1025R pulling a 60 inch mower and have taken off 10 inches of grass and have never killed it off yet! Just have to slow down a little, no big hurry because you are just sitting!!

Good honest review. I would highly recommend wheel weights, loaded tires and wheel spacers. Other than that probably move up to a true 2 series or 3 series for your needs.

Glad I found your video. You answered a lot of my questions while trying to decide which will be my first tractor. In my search I’ve had pro’s tell me time and time again that more power is the key to loving your tractor. You told me why. Thanks!

Thanks for the honest assessment based on your experience with the 2025r. I am considering either the 2025r or the 1025r but
leaning toward the 2025r. I'm a bit perplexed because i haven't read very many comments from other 2025 owners that were
having the same issues you mentioned...such as the engine stalling out. I'd like to hear more existing owners share their experience
with engine stalling when under load.

This is probably the most useful tractor review I've seen on the 2025r.

Thank you for the review. Like you, I bought a 1025r in 2018 when I knew nothing about tractors. I looked at both the 2025r and 1025r and felt more comfortable on the 1025r. The 2025r seemed high and narrow and tipsy. I think its a good machine, but I agree with all those who say, make sure to get the wheel spacers, tires filled and wheel weights. Man it makes the machine feel entirely different! I ended up trading my 1025r setup for a NEW 2038r machine. The extra HP, lift with the MSL is a game changer! I put a lot of research into this new one before I bought it. Got all the add-ons I wanted and would ever need because this one would likely be the last one I would buy. Not a payment I want to have forever! There are so many options out there and it is hard to choose whats right for you. I encourage you to watch all the videos you can and write down what your needs are and apply that list to the size and model machine that you can afford and better suits your needs.

I agree, that 25hp engine is a little small and is easily maxed out doing work around the house. It was for me anyway. Felt like I was asking all she had with many of the tasks I was doing around the house. The 38hp, wow - what a difference! So I can only imagine what a larger 3 series with a 46hp engine would be like. But it's a lot of money. Easier to defend I guess when you have a business need for it, or a large property to manage.

Good luck!

I’ve had the 2025R for a year. I looked at a lot of YouTube before ordering. I really wanted a 40hp type machine. But based on budget and garage size I got this one. I got the dealer to install 2in bora spacers and beat juice in the tires for stability. I also got the self leveling loader. I can lift a tote full of stove wood. It is a machine with low power. But I can live with that.

Thanks for the honest review. I have a 2020 1025R. I saw a 2025 in the JD dealership today and the size caught my eye, but I've always wondered why JD didn't put a larger engine in the 2025. My 1025R does everything I need perfectly.

Currently have JD X500 and been considering 1000/2000 series upgrade. Total acreage is approximately 3/4 and located on lake with lots of landscape opportunity. At 70 years old, it would be nice to have some mechanical help. You helped tremendously in my decision process. Thank you!!

I've owned a 2025R for 2 years now and I can concur with his experience. It's not a great mower as it rips up the lawn on sharp turns and it's bigger than typical riding mowers) when the box blade is full it stops the tractor, the post hole digger is touch and go and if it's stuck it's tough to get unstuck, and on hills in high gear it's struggles. That being said, I still really like it once you know it's limitations which is the fact it's 25 hp and only 2, 000 lbs. The back hoe is great for small projects, digging holes for trees, trenches, etc. The loader is great and replaces a wheel barrow. And all the other attachments work but due to power/weight it takes some practice to be effective with them.

I found the information Very Helpful. That is what we are looking for. I have 1025r. Been a good tractor overall, but would say underpowered, limited for sure and looking to upgrade. Perhaps I move on to 2032 or 2038. Where I live there is a portion of the yard that has to be mowed in 4 wheel drive (hills). So our question for ourselves is keep the 1025r that is paid for and get a grasshopper 900d for a larger portion of the yard, or trade the 1025 r in for a bigger unit. They had a 2025 with backhoe, loader but after we skip that now. Thanks for the review.

What we have here is a good honest review. It really sounds like you need a larger machine for everything you are trying to do.

I have a 2320, which is same as your 2025 with a different badge, just a little older. I'm on flat ground here but I could sure see how your comments would be valid on hills. High gear is only useful for road travel. Mine is paid for too, it's not perfect but it gets the job done so it's staying.

Oversizing implements and speed are mistakes rookies make. I agree on the quality of mowing. I never run out of power, is there something wrong with your engine? I can bury my rototiller without dying. I snowplow with a pusher blade and rarely have power issues. You can add a turbo charger to these engines.( see Tractor Time With Tim )

I have the same tractor but with the backhoe too . I have loaded tires on mine. I've moved feet of snow with it, I have many 5' attachments. Box blade, Tiller, Bush hog, 3 point finish mower, a 6' rake, and a 66" disc harrow. I really have no major complaints. I wish it had a mid range instead of just High or Low. Mine to is paid for so looking to buy new or bigger is hard to think about for another payment. But the harder question. If you did trade in what would you replace it with and why????

I was just at the dealer looking at these today. I wanted to use it for going through wooded area, clearing some land, grading steep gravel drive. Post holes, land raking, moving gravel, sand and logs. The 1 series don’t have enough ground clearance they’re crazy low imo. Thanks for posting

Coming from an E100 small garden ride on mower to my new to me (2019 2025r with 90 hours) i am very relieved. Its way more comfortable and easier to mow with but 10 acres on my E100 sucked butt it was rough and i beat up that mower horribly
