From Niagara Falls USA, but live in Florida now since retiring from the Navy.
When we were young teenagers during the summer there were two popular swimming areas on the Canadian side one was a natural area near this bridge called Dufferin Islands, still there but doesn't allow swimming anymore.
Other popular swimming area was not far from the other bridge downriver from this bridge called Cyanamid Pool, no longer there
Bunch of us would cross together and the Border Agents on both sides would just ask were we were born and where we were going, no ID was required for most of us, but one kid was from Europe and had to show a immigration ID of some type.
