VOLVO P1800S (1964) / Quality classic, good investment, and fun

The Volvo P1800S is a really delightful and quality sports/touring car. A bit like a MGB hardtop but just better in so many ways. This is a well restored and slightly enhanced one that was very rewarding to drive and ride in. A pleasure to share the drive on a sunny winters day with Mike - around the scenic south-western NSW countryside.

That’s my old car !!! 🥰
I recognised it straight away. Its name was Fin…my girls named it because of the glorious fins on the rear!!
Those wheels are so rare and were worth restoring . Hardly ever see them in 10 spoke and at that width. The offset is perfect and gave the car a wider stance … that’s why it handles so well.
I painstakingly finessed the final ride height to where you see it now.
With those wheels and ride height, it was the best P1800 that I’ve seen still to this day.
The leather seats I bought from Sweden in Connelly leather.. it was so soft and luxurious.
The paint is Glasurit paint and looks to be holding up well. That was painted by the guy that owned it previous to me, he owns a very high end panel shop in Sydney.
I even pulled the dash apart and restored the old gauges .. even the clock was rebuilt.. the alloy cross cross was painted in silver and really made the dash pop.

When I first bought the car, I drove it home from Sydney and could hardly turn the steering wheel, so I had the electric steering fitted which transformed it. .
I’m so glad to see that it’s still being driven and being well looked after.
It was my wedding car and I miss it terribly !
But this bought great joy to my heart !! 🥰
Glad to see the new owner loving it and it getting good exposure!!

I owned a 1972 P1800E in the mid 1970s. One of my favorite cars!

My 63 was the 30th one built in Sweden, serial number 6030. Wish I had kept it.

It is so fun to have Michael in your episodes. He is great fun and a natural presenter. Its clear that you are long time friends and he knows where Stu's buttons are hidden. Very entertaining.

Volvo before the box. Love this, one of my primary school teachers had one of these back in the 80's.

My wife has the 1800 ES - the hearse to you. Good video, thanks - we'll just have to disagree about your rating of the ES from some pictures. Looking forward to more from you, ta.

I had a 1964 P1800S. One of the best cars I ever owned. 105 cu. in. and 106 horse. Dry sump oil--drive it all day in Over-Drive @ 4500RPM and the oil pressure would never drop below 50 lb/sq. in.
The P1800S was a classic GT car of the 60s, with the very wonderful characteristic of being reliably bulletproof, in stark contrast to the inferior MGB it is compared to here.

Gorgeous old cars, I remember following one through the winding Pacific Highway north out of Buladelah towards Wootton at night time circa 1984. Wonderful looking on the road on the Panasport wheels.

Nice video

Coupe body was made in Scotland then assembled in West Bromwich England at Jensen.
Roger Moore liked using the car in the series, and decided to have his own which was used in some of the later episodes.

Pelle Petterson didn’t like the later ES model.which was built without his input.

I had a 1964 1800s for the a few years late last century. It was good but not the drug money they are worth now.

Everyone gets this wrong. This car is an 1800S (built in Sweden) there is no such thing as a P1800S. The P1800s (no S) were built in the UK by Jensen. Not sure if the long horn front bumper is original.

Irv Volvo had done miles and it was recondition at miles stil pretty good more reliable than any British built car been reconditioned well the engine removed from the car to be a true high mileage hero the engine has to be original to the car it means it has to stay in the car and not be reconditioned and there is such a car that exists if course its a Toyota Corolla in New Zealand that has done over on its original engine and gearbox it is miles a lot more than miles and there have been two Toyotas sold in Australia that have done 980000 kms a 1997 Hilux with the famous 22R engine and a 2002 Coralla which is less than miles but been Toyotas l can see them go on to well over miles without been reconditioned well you are going to bring up the have these Toyotas ever had there engines recondition tge prices they sold for would not reflect that the Hilux went for $500 and it sold quickly because if the 22R engine and the Corolla forb $4600 and k own a 1997 Hilux with a mere 430000 on it

The bumper is defiantly not correct ...The S had a different bumper

More impressive than am MGB GT? That’s an incredibly low bar!!!
If you said more impressive than an Alfa GTV or a Fiat 124 Coupe, I’d have been much more impressed!
