Adrian Rogers: The Final Judgment of the Unsaved Dead (2367)
Scripture Passage: Revelation 20:12-15

The Book of Revelation prophecies that at the end of the Great Tribulation, Jesus comes with His saints in power and great glory to rule and reign here on earth for a thousand blessed years.

Revelation 20 reveals the final judgment of the unsaved dead, where God settles the score and judges the sins of those who are not in Christ Jesus.

Whether you believe in Him or not, you are going to meet Jesus Christ. He is unavoidable; He cannot be deceived, disputed or discredited. There is no escaping Him. Adrian Rogers says, “If you don’t meet Him as Savior, you will meet Him as Judge. He is the one who will be sitting upon this great white throne.”

Notice those who are called to the judgment:

- The out and out sinner who mocks God
- The self-righteous who thinks he is too good for judgment
- The procrastinator who intended to be saved but never confirmed his salvation
- The unsaved church member who has religion, but not the Lord
- The one who has never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Not one sin has escaped God’s knowledge; every sin will be accounted for—secrets that have been repressed will be revealed. The evidence, the defense and then the verdict of the court will be handed down. And what waits at the end of a Christ-less life is eternity in hell.

But there is good news.

Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.” Adrian Rogers says, “I’m not going to stand before the great white throne and I’ll tell you why. I settled out of court. Jesus became my Savior when He died on that cross in agony and blood and with His blood He paid my sin debt.”

Through the blood of Jesus, your sin can be buried in the grave of God’s forgetfulness, never to be brought up against you again.

Jesus is coming again very soon; are you ready?

Apply it to your life
Have you settled out of court? Choose to follow Him today, lest you stand before the throne of God in judgment.

"(29) and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned. (30) By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me."- John 5:29-30
My wife and I just studied this chapter today, what a blessing to find this sermon as well. People will be punished according to their deeds, but thank God that the Father already wiped away my debt!

THE BIBLE ONLY TALKS ABOUT "FIERY" JUDGMENT AS A METAPHOR FOR EXPOSURE OF UNWORTHY/EVIL WORKS, NOT A PUNISHMENT

What does the Bible mean when it mentions the "fiery furnace" in connection with the Day of Judgment? Instead of meaning "Hell, " as so many Neo Evangelical preachers and teachers would have us think, the Judgment by "Fire" was actually the popular belief among most of the Jews of Jesus' day (that is, those under the influence of the sect of the Pharisees) that the Messiah would, on the day of judgment (the day when he would decide who gets to be a citizen in the new, independent, theocratic Jewish government, beginning in Jerusalem and Judea), would have all their WORKS of every person subjected to intense scrutiny!
Most of the Jews of Jesus' day were looking for God to sent them the Messiah, a special new king, who was going to oust the Romans from their country and, then, conduct a judgment...but only in the sense that no one was going to get a diptych (like the wooden and wax tablet Roman citizens got at birth which served as a certificate of citizenship) unless their WORKS were good and performed with good intentions. Those who had done more than just enough to qualify for citizenship would also get "rewards, " basically, nice appointments in the new government with all the perks (like cool mansions).
But the confusion that set in when Greco-Roman converts from paganism heard about the Judgment of Fire, stems from their ignorance (and frankly, no skin in the game of a Jewish Empire that would replace Rome!) about the metaphor of fire used to describe the Messiah's assessment. Repeatedly, Jesus warned the superficially religious of his day how, instead of waltzing into the new government and getting all sorts of awesome positions, they were going to be really shocked and disappointed! Why? Because they would see all their religious WORKS "go up in flames!"
The other metaphors the Jews understood (but the later converts from paganism had no clue about) was the idea that, on the Judgment Day (or what we could call the Great Kingdom of God Citizenship Hearing) was how those who had failed to live according to true righteousness would find themselves "out in the darkness" or "out in the cold" of exile from the new kingdom. This is why, upon seeing what the religious elite of Jesus' day probably imagined as a mere formality, they will suddenly learn they're not even going to "get in" the kingdom, and from the "fiery" seat of judgment, be shown the door...and in reaction, they'll begin crying uncontrollably as they're sent out "into the darkness" and their teeth will begin to chatter as they find themselves "out in the cold": "weeping and gnashing of teeth"!
But how many times do we hear Neo Evangelical preachers and teachers make it seem like those who don't get citizenship on the judgment day will THEMSELVES be thrown in a fire, and as the flames are licking their flesh, described as merely crying (when people burning alive don't merely cry, but scream in agony at the top of their lungs), and they certainly don't experience any sensations of freezing temperatures resulting in their teeth chattering!
That all said, and as much as Jesus spared no harsh words for the behavior of the religious hypocrites of his day, even then, he never once said they would be subjected to ETERNAL consequences. All he said was that they would be the LAST to get their citizenship in the kingdom, and it would be AFTER "sinners" (non-observant Jews) and publicans (considered the worst sort of traitors to the Jews) would get their "green cards" way before they would!
