How to Allow User Registration on Your WordPress Site

Are you wanting your users to register on your WordPress site? WordPress has a built-in registration option so users can add posts, comments, or other actions based on their role. In this video, we'll show you how to allow user registration on your WordPress site and how to manage it.

To start, you want to ensure that you're allowing new user registrations under Settings, General and checking the Anyone can register box. Also, set the default user role for what level you want your users, by default, is set to Subscriber.

With those set, when a user attempts to log into your site using your admin URL or your meta widget link, they will see the option to create a user there. In our example video, we are using user switching which we explain here:

To improve the user registration we will be using the WPForms plugin and activating the User Registration Addon. This lets you build a user registration page that you can customize for the fields and information you're wanting to have for the registered users of your site.

WPForms allows you to customize what information a user receives once they apply as well as if it requires you to accept their registration to be able to log in. Once all of that has been set to your liking you will want to create a page for your registration to appear, add the WPForms block, and select the form that you created for your user registration. If you like, WPForms even allows you to create a custom login form to match the style of your new registration page.

May i ask if the user's input (after he/she completes the registration form) is stored in the database? If yes, in which table? Is it considered a good practice to access that table in other pages' code?

Hi, thank you for the great content! Quick question though... We're wanting to require a login from users we specify in order to get to our Homepage (or any other pages associated to our WP site). Seems pretty straight forward to actually create the form, but how do we put that login page "in front of" our WP homepage and other pages?

Also, where are those users managed? Is that all within the WP Admin under Users? The use-case is that we're hoping to grant people access and give them a username/password to use to get to our site (and not direct them to the back-end console). Would we just set everyone up as Subscribers? They'd purely be site visitors (not authors or contributors to the site by any means). We have some proprietary stuff on that site that we don't want wide open. Thank you in advance!

How do I direct the hyperlinks on the meta widget to the login/registration pages created with WPForms? The meta links are still directing me to the Wordpress sign in page rather than the pages I created for it.

Hello! After moving my meta, up to where the search bar, etc, is I doesnt show up on the website. I saved after making a title for it. I also refreshed website multiple times and no success. Hello and thank you for this video. I have imported a starter template site that already has registration forms for students registration and instructor registration but no login form.

I have created a login form using Peters login but now I can not make the default registration forms work together with Peters login form. After login, there seems to be no "logout" button to enable users to log out.

If I simply create a logout link, it only acts as redirected but the user is not logged out in reality as they can still see contents when they click on the courses page.

Great tutorial as always. I have a quick question, it is possible to have two wordpress sites one for marketing where the users sign up (and pay first months sunscription) and another for using the service i provide i was hoping to create a system where the sign up site takes there username and gives a generic password that they can use for the service site and then change their password once they are logged in to the service site.
