In this video, Mahalo math expert Allison Moffett shows you how to convert inches to centimeters.

Convert Inches to Centimeters
---------------------------------------------------------------------

To convert inches to centimeters, first you need the conversion factor. One inch is equal to 2.54 centimeters. You can then use this to convert any amount of inches to centimeters or vice versa.

For example, if you have two inches and you want to know how many centimeters equal the equivalent, use the conversion factor 1/2.54 and set it equal to the value you want to find. In this case, that means 1/2.54=2/X. Cross multiply to find that X=2(2.54). This means that since the two sides are equal you can multiply the bottom of the first and the top of the second and set it equal to the top of the first times the bottom of the second. Multiplying gives you 5.08 cm, which is your answer.

Second Conversion Problem
---------------------------------------------------------------------

To convert 7.62 centimeters to inches, start with the conversion factor one inch equals 2.54 centimeters. Set that fraction equal to X inches equals 7.62 centimeters. Cross multiply so that you are left with 7.62 equals 2.54 times X. Divide both sides by 2.54 to get 3 inches, which is your answer.

When converting anything, there are only 2 steps:
Step 1: Google it
Step 2: You're done!

Why make it more complicated than it is by crossmultiplication, simply just divide or multiply by 2.54.

Why does imperial units have nominal size to things? My boss told me to find a pice of wood 2 by 4. I went out to measure the pieces of timber and none of them are exactly 2 inches by 4 inches.... Then I found out that he was talking about nominal size....

inches are such a stupid measurement. centimeters goes like this : 1 cm =10milimeters, 100 cm or 1000 milimeters =1 meter. 1000 meters = 1 kilometers, so easy. not that stupid 1/8, 1/6 etc. is that even accurate ?
