How to redirect a root (apex) domain to another domain with Route53 | AWS Quick tips #1

When you need to redirect the root (or apex) domain to another domain with Route53 then you don't have too many options. You can't directly use the A record because it only allows using IP addresses or aliases to AWS resources. The CNAME only allows subdomains.

But you can use a neat little trick that allows you to use an A record with an Alias to redirect to another domain, even if that domain is outside of your AWS infrastructure. Check out the video to see how to do it.

Thanks for that post. What if I want to redirect to 2 different domains based on GEOLocation? Do I create 2 buckets for each domain and then after 2 A records?

Thanks for that, but where is the site hosted as I have not seen you adding html etc files to S3 bucket you created, you just enabled the redirect.

well I don't know where you hosting your apex cloud website but I am trying to redirect my domain to a random URL and this way doesn't seem to be working for me
