I Already Know How Your First Composition Sounded

Ami G and F are like magic for some reason. Those chords tend to be some of the first that people discover when they start exploring the piano and they are the building blocks for some of the greatest songs ever written and of songs YET to be written!

As someone who likes to noodle around on the piano without ever having taken lessons, this video is rather accurate.

Much of the noodling around I do these days involves changes between C# and F#, with an occasional B flat thrown in, mostly because I like the way the C# - B flat change sounds. Funny thing is, these keys use mostly those scary black keys that so often frighten kids and other beginners.

The reality is that it is physically easier to play the black keys, which is why, I suspect, guys like Chopin and Liszt wrote so many pieces in keys having all those scary sharps and flats.

The present system of musical notation, at least in the classical world -- Jazz notation is way more user friendly once you get it -- places, I think, unneeded obstacles and difficulties that often frustrate, and worse yet, even chase away beginners (yes, I know there are technical and theoretical reasons why a G on the piano might be notated as F##, but for beginners this is silly).

Anyway, always enjoy the vids and once again, nice work.

Haha I cant believe it. Yes, you are spot on! I always did the left hand as chords and right as single notes. Now I will try the other way round, thanks.

Gives me a lot of encouragement to continue working on developing and understanding cords while trying to develop skills and rhythm

Your videos are so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your musical passion, everything seems so simple when it comes from you!!! Since I discovered your chanel, I have learned so much! I think the first thing is to listen to what's in my head and play it on the piano. In other words, letting the melody flow through my fingers without thinking too much while singing it! Thanks again for that!

Beautiful, just shows knowledge is king. Just knowing this bit of information about music and chords opens up a whole new world of potential. People look at musicians as geniuses many times and some definitely are like Prince and they run with it. However most times it is because they know something we don't and often it is something as simple as this. It is many times not as difficult as we think if we would just get a little knowledge and see the inner workings of it. Thank you, that was very soothing. Especially that Bon Jovi I about melted listening to that.

8:05 I could *feel* you were moving towards this tune. My favorite musician (after my father of course) - Mark Knopfler, Sultans of Swing! Thank you, Aimee, for another lovely video. It’s wonderful to have you, another favorite musician of mine of course, back in full swing, so to speak.

The magic lies in your marvelous articulation to bring these to amateur players like myself. You deserve your success.

Aimee, I confess, my very first composition (about 11 years old on the accordion!) was similar. Fast forward, in the 1980s, I attended a concert by New Age pianist George Winston. I don’t recall the particular piece, but he improvised on exactly those three chords for about 20 minutes. He managed to keep it interesting, though

Ha ha ha!!!! One of the first songs I wrote, if not the first one, and it was on guitar, was Am - G - F and E, so it's definitely not just exclusive to the piano. I think much of the appeal is the rundown element. That particular chord sequence has been used in many a song over the years, as I have discovered on my musical journey! 😊

So glad you're back and feeling better, Aimee. As usual, great new information, but your enthusiasm is what really makes your videos so special.

I've been playing guitar and writing songs for over 30 years, and now piano for about 8 months and I've never written a song using that chord change. But I definitely will now. I think all along the watchtower might use that chord change, sounds like it.
