With the release of FiLMiC Pro 6.13 on iOS & Android, 12 series iPhones and select Android handsets now fully support 10-bit SDR capture with Log V3, marking a major leap forward for mobile filmmaking.

In this video you’ll learn why 10-bit is so important for filmmakers; how to shoot in 10-bit in FiLMiC Pro v6.13 on iOS and Android; how the gamma curves available in the Cinematographer Kit in-app purchase compare in 8-bit and 10-bit; as well as how to start color grading 10-bit FiLMiC Log V3 video in NLEs like Davinci Resolve.

Video Chapters:
0:00 - Intro & Sample Footage
0:27 - The difference between 8-bit & 10-bit
1:30 - Why shoot in 10-bit?
2:50 - How to enable 10-bit capture in FiLMiC Pro iOS
3:27 - How to enable 10-bit capture in FiLMiC Pro Android
3:36 - Log V3 + new gamma curves for 10-bit

With 10-bit in FiLMiC Pro you’ll be capturing greater shadow detail, and over 60x the color information. When 10 bit SDR is used in conjunction with FiLMiC Log V3, you unleash the maximum dynamic range your device is capable of as well as superior color representation and natural gradation in post color graded footage. FiLMiC Pro offers users more 10 bit options, including Dolby Vision (iOS only), SDR and SDR with FiLMiC Log V3, than any other video app.

This is highly impressive. I can’t even imagine what the next 5-10 years will allow with mobile devices and brilliant apps and their devs like FiLMiC Pro.

Is it just me, or would the whole world love to hear this guy read the back of cereal boxes and children’s books? Excellent voice! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is incredible. I’m doing a 30 mile hike through the Grand Canyon this week and can’t wait to see how 10bit LogV3 handles the snow and landscape this time of year ❤️🎁🎄

I initially wasn't going to upgrade my iPhone X Xs Max to an iPhone 12 until I saw all the videos about not only the sensor improvements but the sensor stabilization (wide lens only if I recall correctly). That plus this improvement in FPro were the decid9dgn factors. I now have an iPhone 12 Pro Max on order just to use for the video! Great job y'all!

Loving the 10 bit feature. Just a shame the Dynamic Tone Mapping exposure issue hasn’t been fixed. Really ruins the immersion of footage.

I have been using Filmic Pro for a very long time, I recently purchased a cinematographer kit and I am extremely happy with Log V3 in 10-bit mode. I use it all the time, thank you so much for this awesome app. I keep telling everyone in my videos about Filmic pro also.

This is very exciting news. I'm looking forward to getting the new iPhone 12 Pro and upgrading to the latest version of the FILMIC Pro to take advantage of 10 bit color.

Thank you! Also I had artefacts before on 12 pro Max in any mode (not in hdr). It was square lines (iso 50 and less, shutter 100, 50 FPS, 50 Hz power supply in Europe). But in hdr capture was good and smooth without any artefacts and noise.

I really liked it when you said "most videos are still consumed in 8-bit"

Just impressive what we can have from smartphones nowadays. There are even 2000 dollars cameras that still don’t have 10bit.
Please, if possible, make a tutorial on how do unsharpen iPhone footage to look more cinematic.

Isn't LG V30 the first phone to introduce 10bit recording? 🤔
