Happy Thanksgiving From PragerU Kids! (Response)

I was considering responding to the main channel but I thought I'd take a look at the child propaganda outlet. Gotta love Dennis and the Crew.

I'm very thankful for my highschool history teacher who actually tried to teach us about some of the atrocities colonizers have done to indigenous tribes. I was in a public school in Canada, and the curriculum the government issues out is very sanitized and we wouldn't have learned about it if she hadn't made the effort. She also organized a few seminars from actual natives people to talk about their current struggles living in reservations and general hostilities they deal with. Those lessons really stuck with me.

People will say stuff about not teaching kids about the atrocities that were committed during thanksgiving and other “holidays”, and refuse to teach kids about the realities of native peoples. (They also refuse to teach about actual world history that isn’t more details about the us in the world wars.)

But then why do we teach about the holocaust? Or 9/11? Or Pearl Harbor? In elementary school?? Because these are the tragedies that they actually see as tragedies. The people who don’t care about the truth behind thanksgiving, are the people who don’t think it was a tragedy even when they learn the truth.

my thoughts exactly! i hate the way history is sanitized to be palatable, it really does make it harder to relearn history from a non-white lens. gotta love our education system and the people creating curriculum :/

I'm just reminded of the thanksgiving play scene in Addams Family Values, which had content very close to that of the Prager video - but that was deliberately over-sweet because it was parodying the sanitatisation of thanksgiving. We're at the point where reality and satire become hard to tell apart.
