The Greek hero, Hercules, was sentenced by the gods to endure 12 seemingly impossible "labors" in order to redeem himself. This composition portrays the second of these tests---his battle with a nine-headed water serpent with deadly venom and the ability to grow back two heads for every one cut off! We played this at a huge state finals. I am a percussionist, and my friend and I like snare drum and base, stuff like that. But the problem was, there was only one snare drum, and I was first snare, meaning I got to choose my instrument first. One the last day before the concert, my friend asked to switch, he was on Timpani, and I had never played. So in desperation, he taught me in under an hour. We won the competition with flying colors

Literally first trumpet is so fun on this you get some good parts

One of the first songs from middle school I super loved, even all these years later it still rests in my mind. Great piece! The brass have such an overwhelming presence in its highlights.

this was so fun to play !!, I had just came back from performing it and played it in our concert. I was a flute player for it, and played the solo during rehearsal. it’s always so fun to play the solo and hear the band play it because of how good it sounds! :)
edit: played this for the IGSMA competition last Saturday, it was amazing! out of 3 songs our band played this is my fav, it always sounds so emotional and I love it!
