What a great, simple and concise video on this NAS. You cut right to the chase with no filler or info overload. I really appreciated your take on this device. Mine comes in next week and i'm super stoked for it.

Love the video. Thank you. I was wondering if connecting to a Mesh WIFI network still works? Specifically, I have a mesh network in my home with the router/modem connected to the internet, and 3 x mesh device/hubs spread around the house. It works great. But, the question is, will this still work if I physically connect this to one of the hubs, not directly into the router. They all have Ethernet connections, so it would seem so, but I am nervous to buy it before testing. (I don’t have space where the router is for this device, hence the question). Thank you.

Great review Dave. Would love to see you using it to set up something like Plex or the IP camera feeds you talk about. 👍🏻

I have the Synology DS713+ version of this. I use it for my household file, backup, and video (via Plex) server. Never given me any problems. I started with 2x3TB drives and expanded the capacity by upgrading to 5TB drives at about the 5-year mark w/out issues. The instructions for "administratively" failing out the old drives and replacing them with the new ones was simple and the process went as expected/described.

The only reason I'm here is because I'm thinking of upgrading the unit to something that supports M.2 and that has a bit more CPU horsepower for video transcoding now that "4k" is a realistic option so I've been looking into the DS720+. I may be holding off on the purchase after hearing that the network connections are still only 1Gb however. It seems that the M.2 on the DS720+ can only do caching for the drives, and anyway there's not much point in speeding up data access to the drive(s) if it is just going to bottleneck at the NIC instead.

Any chance of maybe getting a 2.5Gb or a 10Gb NIC working at speed through one of the USB ports?

Another great video about Synology NAS. These are superb machines. Dave you recommended one for me about 4 yrs ago the DS416 Play and it is easily one of the best devices I have. I use it every day and it has never let me down. I use it to store my movies, music and photos and best of all it is my Plex Server which is used by my family in different locations. I just love mine. Synology as a company are trying to improve their systems all the time and this new idea of putting cache drives in at the bottom of the server sounds very interesting. Dave do you know does that help with speed and the through put of Data?

Is it advisable to have an SSD cache or you can use this without it? Thanks!

Nice review Dave, But I see someone ask you to do a Plex setup and you gave a thumbs up, I have an idea, Instead of giving a thumbs up make the video regarding the Plex setup instead.
Iam sure that would satisfy most viewers instead of just talking about it.

Has anyone connected their NAS to an over the top media streamer, such as Roku?
