Dominican Republic Plans to Deport Up to 10,000 Haitian Migrants Every Week | Firstpost America

The Caribbean nation of the Dominican Republic has unveiled its plan to deport up to 10,000 undocumented migrants every week to its conflict-ridden neighbour, Haiti. The country says it has noticed Haitian migrants in "excess", who are living in the nation illegally. The Dominican Republic's President Luis Abinader said the violence and instability in Haiti is a national security risk. The United Nations has urged countries, including the Dominican Republic and the United States, not to deport Haitian migrants. The Dominican Republic last year accounted for 90 percent of the Haitian migrants' deportation from around the globe. It has also closed border crossings with Haiti.

As a Dominican, I wish the best for Haitians but in their land. French and USA and other big nations should help Haiti to establish a decent government there. My country can’t do more that what has been done.

We are not a rich country by any means, we’re a developing country and we have a migration law, that allows people from anywhere to enter and stay legally here. We are perfectly capable to enforce it.

US should take notes. International Communities must help stabilize Haiti instead of criticizing DR for enforcing laws.

Dominican Republic is overwhelmed by the Haitians immigration, our President been denouncing this situation in internationals forums, but nobody is willing to do anything to help Haiti living the problem to the neighbor, sorry, we have done enough to help Haiti, they consuming most of the services Health, schools, and there is no enough services for our own people. Is time to think in our country and applie the Laws and Costitution the same way that many others countries do, we are not the bad ones in this movie, ask USA, France and Canada to do something for Haiti they have a lot to do with what is happening there.

You can send help to Haiti if you care so much. Stop the misinformation. No one is HUNTING them.

Taking legal action to enforce national laws makes sense. Either change the law or enforce it.

The click bait word “HUNT” these people have the right to do whatever the heck they want with the future of their country why should they be condoned to deal with the poverty of other nations when we all know they ain’t even rich enough to take care of all the fellow citizens. It’s time for us Americans to stop the double standards.

The US wants the DR to take on this problem on it's own and solve it on it's own. The DR is not responsible for any of that, we did all we can and that's that. This situation has been going on for decades and the international community just shrugs it off. Well it's about time that DR is doing something because no one is.

Everyone forgets the history of Haiti and DR. Haiti invaded the DR in the past and took over the country. They were eventually pushed out. To this day, there are Haitians who believe that the whole island of Hispaniola is theirs. Haiti has not been able to govern itself. The international community and the US have sent billions. Where did it go?

10, 000 per week is a moderate start, they should increase that number.
