I haven't tried putting the source monitor "over" the program monitor, but I definitely will!

Another thing I did is assign keyboard shortcuts (1-9 on the top number row) to each window I typically use. This way I can quickly switch to the window I want without having to move my mouse to the panel tabs (e.g. going from effects to project bin in your workspace).
