HOMA-IR: The Most Important Test You've Never Heard OF

HOMA-IR stands for homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance

It's essentially a measure of how hard the body is working to keep your glucose and insulin in balance

HOMA-IR is calculated by taking a fasting glucose and multiplying that number by a fasting insulin level and the total of which is divided by a constant 22.5

This video explains insulin resistance and the need to have this valuable test

Fasting glucose x fasting insulin/ 22.5

Optimal Range: 1.0 (0.5–1.4)
· Less than 1.0 means you are insulin-sensitive which is optimal.
· Above 1.9 indicates early insulin resistance.
· Above 2.9 indicates significant insulin resistance.

Hey Doc, great video. Thanks. How is the fasting insulin done. Does it have a special name? In most of the blood work I've done, they measure fasting glucose and A1C, nothing about insulin. Thanks in advance.

Doc, you should have videos that run 2, 5, 10, and 15 minutes.
Giving people highlights, and a general understanding of diseases, causes, symptoms, treatments, and tests.

Dr, what do you think about the coronary artery scan test for arterial plaque? I heard it's the best test for diagnosing plaque in the arteries.

Can dihydroberberine help increase insulin sensitivity of the pancrease?

How can I get my PCP to order this test? He's a narrow-minded zombie that works for the insurance company.

My A1c in Feb was 5.7 and my Homa-IR was 1.6. On retest in August my A1c was 5.6 but my Home-IR has come down to 1.1, my weight was down 10 pounds with LCHF and intermittent fasting on a 18:6 schedule. Can I expect that my A1c will catch up and drop further to reflect the improvement in the Home-IR?
