Musescore 4 - Finlandia MuseSounds test

Показать описание
I wrote out Finlandia in Musescore some several years ago. Here is that file, processed through MS4 with MuseSounds. I lowered the timpani volume and raised the strings (about 6db in each case,). I made no other adjustments to my very old Finlandia file.
I find that MS4 doesn''t work well with Fortzandi and gradual dynamic change (in this example, they are very abrupt).
I have not updated any notational data from my very old Musescore data, which I am sure is responsible for some of the issues found in this example. I don't use Musescore as my primary software anymore.
The brass are rough throughout. I've seen a lot of praise for the very aggressive brass sound at stronger dynamics, and while that works very well at the beginning of this piece, the horns and trumpets are unnecessarily bright throughout the rest. The brass tutti sound is very artificial sounding still. While not present in this score, there is no euphonium sound and the tuba does not have the range of pitches to substitute (or to cover the advanced range of our repertoire, but that's of little concern).
The strings are generally excellent. The chorale in octaves between the first violin and celli are especially wonderful. The strings easily overbalance the rest of the orchestra at stronger dynamics, which should be possible to fix (e.g. the brass are difficult to hear in the louder middle section). The tremolo sound artifacts noticably when play long enough.
The woodwind sounds are very pleasant throughout this recording. I would appreciate a more brilliant upper register in the flutes, and more color in the low register of the bassoons. The detail of the vibrato on longer sustains is beautiful (e.g. the first flute in the chorale). The note starts are not characteristic of the actual instruments, and are identical across the woodwind family, giving the chorale a very organesque sound.
