I love the fact that Ward Fowler has a picture of William Shatner on his bedroom wall. That's something me and Ward have in common.

The Bye-Bye Sky High I.Q. Murder Case was an interesting one. It was one of the few, if not the only, episode where Columbo knew his “bumbling detective” act wouldn’t work here; so he had a different tactic from the start to see if he can get a reaction out of anyone.

The thumbnail makes it look like Brandt (Theodore Bikel) is about to shoot Ward Fowler (William Shatner)! 😂

We're golden years back then
When tv was great only few channels back then

I really liked Sorrell Booke in the Sky High I.Q. episode, as well as in Swan Song. Very different characters played well.

Theodore Bikel's character, Oliver Brandt, is, perhaps, the only murderer in the entire Columbo series who thoroughly enjoyed carrying out the alibi he created. He even smiles during the umbrella/squib phase of his elaborate plan, as thought thoroughly pleased with his own cleverness. And, indeed, Oliver's scheme is so clever and well thought out that Columbo ultimately has to draw on his intimate understanding of human nature to trick Oliver into revealing the final critical detail of his constructed alibi.

Every Columbo murderer was ingenious in their own way. They all thought they had committed the perfect murder but always overlooked something crucial otherwise Columbo could never catch them. Unlike real life murders, the Columbo murderers and victims were connected to each other which also made Columbo's job easier, as he wasn't looking for some random killer who had little or no connection to the victim.

Ward must be a Star Trek fan, since there's a picture of Captain Kirk over his shoulder when they're watching the game.

Season 6 had only 3 episodes as I recall, and all of them were great episodes. The William Shatner episode was the first time I think that Perter Falk's actual wife played a supporting role in a Columbo episode. The video recorder he uses to trick the guy must have been a Betamax recorder as VHS recorders didn't exist in America at that point. If he had checked the guys watch more carefully prior to changing it, and then changing it back, he would have noticed it was originally 5 minutes ahead of real time. That wasn't particularly ingenious of him.

I mean, if Ward Fowler needed more money to pay off his blackmailer then a sideline in one-handed speed locksmithing might've been the way to go, ...

Not very interesting without Columbo's presence.
