Could San Antonio and Austin become the next big Texas metroplex?

City planners say it is not likely, but isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Weird that the distance between the two cities doesn't automatically spark discussions of bullet trains or some other rapid mode of public transport. It seems like our thinking is so limited & outdated.

I just moved to San Antonio Texas from Ocala Florida and I love San Antonio ❤

Yeah they're working on high speed rail between Dallas and Houston. Seems like one between San Antonio and Austin would be easy. Run it along 35 with stops in New Braunfels and San Marcos.

If it becomes a major metroplex, it will probably be called the Austin/San Antonio metro.

Sad thing is neither city has the infrastructure to support every that’s happening

Nope, San Antonio and Austin are incompatible.

Wall off Austin and keep it confined. We don't need that seeping into the rest of Texas.

It's going to happen eventually. An hour apart isn't bad either. Houston and DFW both have distances even longer than that in their metro areas

It would be nice if more discussion was placed on trains and not more highways. Adding or expanding more highways won’t completely solve the congestion problem.

Nobody is coming to SA from another country. Unless those countries are from South America. 😂

The lines are horribly long everywhere in these two places too.

Short of a technological revolution in transportation, commuting daily to/from Austin is idiotic.

San Antonio sucks. Very old and dated city. Infrastructure planning is horrible. Double decker highways? Yea that worked in Austin pretty well

Get w/the times. It already is. Take a Death Race 2000 cruise between SA & ATX w/cussing once.

Not when people realize just how fake and unsustainable the infrastructure of the city and county is.
San Antonio is a city in which a suburban road system has been installed in areas with high city population densities. Because the city and county have turned over road development duties to the corporate developers, the road system on the outer edges of the city consists of overtaxed county roads squeezed between developments with no thur traffic flow. This leads to extreme traffic all the time and a very inefficient traffic flow. Spending ones time stuck in traffic is not fun.
Worse yet is that the city and county residents will probably be on the hook to repave the roads in those developments that benefit the public, not one bit. This is what corporate oligarchy looks like. No thanks, I can't wait to get out of this clown show.

I will never return to San Antonio, it is a terrible place and I went to Austin to survive my last days left in Texas because San Antonio was just that terrible to blacks

Both of them cities are Democrat, there's a better chance they could be the next California, Dallas is not far behind.
