FYI, for modern, Russian Vostoks:

There are also mid-tier Komandirskies often under the label “Komandirskie Automatic”, which having Amphibian or Amphibian-like specs but have a more rugged field look to them. Like they look similar to Marathon’s watches. So there’s a stylistic difference that one learn to spot. And further, Vostok’s highest tier of Komandirskie (which is less-often seen) look more like conventional wristwatches and have mineral glass, a conventional single-piece screw-down display caseback.

I own 12 of these watches and love the fact that they can be modified! They're not the most accurate watches, but still, they are pretty unique and quirky.

Went out and looked at my Komandirskie GMT.
case exactly like an Amphibia and made entirely out of 604 stainless steel.

OK so I have a white faced sub Komandirskie with an amphibia back. After some research this was a recognised combo. Any info?

I think that the first "tip" is basically useless. Take Amphibia 420289 it clearly has the Cyrillic for "Komandskie" on the dial, yet it is an Amphibia, and that is a watch you can still buy brand new.
Also because these have been around so long, and (especially in the east) they aren't considered in any way collectible, many vintage "franken-watches" exist.
it is almost impossible to know if the watch you have isn't just a collection of parts thrown together on someone's kitchen table.

You forgot to inform the most basic and most important point

All Amphibia case is thick because all of them are automatic, due to the rotor at the back.

Komandirskie model which you have is hand winding thats why the case looks different
