Libertarianism at its core is just the belief on smaller governments and more local control and less federal control.

Basically, freedom. Whether it's freedom we personally want to use or not, we want people to have freedom. I don't want to do weed, but I want other people to be allowed to. I don't want a gun, but I want other people to be allowed one.

Think of it this way, it is extremely easy for you and I to be wrong, we could very well be wrong about literally everything and have no idea. The human brain is famously unreliable and extremely biased towards the self.

So considering this, it would be unbelievably arrogant to restrict anything based on what I believe to be right. As there is always a reasonable chance that I am wrong, and once that thing is lost, it cannot be regained. This is the core tenant behind libertarian thinking, I might be wrong, so I shouldn't steal options from others. Until something can be definitively proved correct or incorrect it should not be acted upon because humans are faulty. And acting upon something as extreme as un-regainable freedoms without concrete absolute proof that it is a good idea is not only foolish, but also arrogant beyond belief.

The right to be free is important, not because freedom is ultimately important to everyone, but because until we know what to do for sure, freedom is the only good option.

Devils Advocate is used in the law. It simply means looking at a conflict situation from your opponent’s POV, and in legal disputes, using that skill to predicting the opposing counsel’s next move so that your own attorney can get the appropriate legal arguments ready in response.
