Why Is MOBILE LEGENDS Being Sued Again? | League of Legends

Mobile Legends is a mobile game that claims to have been the first "Mobile MOBA game". Although this is debatable, one thing that's not debatable is how the developers take an immense amount of inspiration from League of Legends. A game that came out 7 years before their release.
With that fact, Riot Games have spent the last 5 years trying to defeat them in court. But despite how obvious some of their copying is at times, Mobile Legends has seemingly completely got away with it.

Today we take a look at the most recent update to their battles and how Riot Games' Wild Rift may actually be struggling to beat Mobile Legends.

By the way, it's not mentioned in the video but I actually think Mobile Legends is a fine game. There's a reason why so many people prefer it over others.
Let me know though, do you play mobile games like Mobile Legends or Wild Rift? 🤔

The main problem is that Riot had a chance to make Wild Rift a lot earlier when people actually demanded it. Riot didnt follow up on it so others took the rein and went wild.

The fact that Moonton got away with blatantly copying League just goes to show how little intellectual property rights matter. I hope that will change someday.

Wild rift was just too late, MLBB had already established itself as THE mobile Moba game. In countries mainly in southeast Asia this game is everywhere youd go, heck I remember letting some friends play smash bros (they have never heard of it) and when they saw the characters they were describing them to characters from MLBB. It really goes to show the loyalty of these players and how well established it already it despite the blatant copying.

Here in the Philippines, playing pc games were usually played in comp shops because having a pc is expensive as shit. And it was highly inconvenient not only to the people gaming but also to the other people in the computer shop waiting their turn.

When Mobile Legends was introduced, it was definitely a lot easier, and less expensive for people. Not to mention it was user friendly, or atleast it was for me. I've played both, and honestly, ML is less intimidating than League. And I was so confused with League that I just did not want to play cause it was too complicated (I was a beginner, and a kid who just wanted to play with friends, I was not looking for advanced nerd shit plus I'm not allowed out of the house for a long time). When I got ML, it gave me the chance to easily play with friends without having to worry about time and expenses.

Even until now, majority of my friends still play ML, even if Wild Rift is there. Ml is just more faster, less space, and more friendly. A single game in League usually takes around an hour from what I've seen, and ML can be done in less than 30 if you're lucky. But if you get over 30 in ML, to me, it's usually because both sides are very good and are unwilling to end fast because they enjoy fucking it up with their opponent lol. Probs the same with League but I usually watch ML Esports/Content Creators.

The only difference for me is the mechanics. Both are equally fun, and both are equally a good game to play with friends. But League is definitely harder than Ml, it's more advanced.

Despite being a mlbb player i always supported riot against moonton, but riot using meme comments to file a complaint just makes the situation hilarious💀

Riot has let Mobile Legend to grow too big and i doubt they could shut them down at this point. It's not just a game anymore, this has become an industry and a lot of people earn their living from this game in all aspects

I think one of the biggest things why MLBB's player base didn't budge when WR was released is that wr needs a good phone and a big system to run properly. I used to play MLBB before wild rift and there's a really big difference when it comes to space required for the game to play smoothly, here in the Philippines there's a lot more people that play on phones rather than consoles and gaming set ups that also means not everyone has a good phone to run the Wild rift (due to the pandemic too since a lot of people lost their jobs)

I’ve played both and I think both of these games are amazing. My moba experience started with mobile legends but ive learned alot of micro and macro from league that helped me in both games.

Winning the first lawsuit gives Riot an upper hand in this one, and Moonton going back and changing their characters designs just makes them look worse.

As someone who played league for 12 seasons, based on how greedy riot was with last years and the amount of "we don't care" from customer support it feels good

Fun fact: Neither Tencent nor Riot ever actually won a copyright case vs Moonton. The US case was dismissed. The Chinese case won was not about copyright & also not against Moonton.

Tencent sued their ex-employee (the moonton ceo) for breach of contract (a non-compete I believe?) & won the 2.9 mil. Moonton the company is a different entity which was not involved.

If they actually had a copyright win in china, I don't think the case would've been dismissed, since riot could say "Yeah, we went to china & we won"

Thing is, mobile legends is unfortunately just so much better than wild rift, hell id rather play mlbb than wild rift.

Riot is just late to the mobile moba game world that’s it. When I showed my sister wild rift (an avid mobile legends player) she understood that bang bang is blatant copy but it’s hard to move games since the game already rooted in her live, she spends so much money for “cool” skin, all her friends were still actively playing it and they all loved the localization of some of the “hero” + the meme community is so active and localized on each countries. Rito must try a new way 👀

I honestly have the impression riot did not put enough effort into promoting Wild Rift. Mobile Legends has been in the market for much longer as "lol mobile", if riot wanted to overthrow them they should have promoted the game harder. I feel they relied way too much on Arcane and when the hype ended everyone forgot WR.

They didn't even promote the game in LoL - where thousands of players (especially new ones) have technical difficulties with their pcs.

Also canceling Esports everywhere but asia is very concerning, especially because in South america there is a largely passionate playerbase. I go to twitch and more than half the streamers are latin/brazillian (and I usually look for english content)

And as a south american who had issues with bad pcs and who has friends with the same issues I can atest WR is a great alternative for many people who can't play LoL on PC and they would probably like it. Issue is, nobody ever hears about it unless they are already part of the League community.

I am completely happy with the outcome seeing as if riot had actually cared about there idea being stolen they wouldn’t just be sueing moonton Ik at least 8 games with same format and characters but I don’t see them getting sued I think the reason is mostly to stay at the top of the competition

It doesn't help that Wild Rift was steadily declining by the time 2022 rolled up. The lawsuit seemed like a desperate last struggle to bring Wild Rift to the forefront. WR just lacked enough effort in advertising and supporting their content creators from the smallest to the biggest which gave ML not only an edge because they got in the market first, but also built a tight bond of loyalty with the community and creators. Might be going on a tangent here, but ML goes out of their way to help small content creators host giveaways and advertise them in game to grow their channels and send them gifts at least thrice a year didn't matter if they were small. It's sad to see a billion-dollar company lacked the effort to retain the playerbase.

As a ML player im just happy that montoon finally has a rival in moba games. (IN MOBILE) In year 2016-2018 montoon is very strict on giving some free stuffs especially skins. But now, i can feel that montoon is spoiling us by giving skins and free heroes just because of wildrift release. Its a good thing for the both of company to have a rival cuz look at genshin. The developers are not listening to the players and their anniversary feels like a normal day. 😭

It all boils down to game mechanics why MLBB gained so much popularity especially in SEA region. Players who never had any experience with MOBA find MLBB easier to play compared to WR

Problem is, Riot didnt make a mobile game, Moontoon did and they did copy back then, then they changed the whole concept. It was the only PVP game ever existed during that time..and it has the same quality as LoL...when Wild Rift was released, i find it unstable, especially server wise
