Latex Foam vs Memory Foam Responsiveness

In this video, I compare the differences in responsiveness between Dunlop natural latex foam and memory foam.

The Dunlop latex foam offers a very fast response time in comparison to the memory foam. The natural latex rebounds instantly, whereas the memory foam takes more time to regain its shape. I have experienced the slow sinking-in feeling of a memory foam mattress. I found the sinking sensation quite distracting, especially when I was trying to fall asleep. With natural latex foam, the experience is vastly different, as the foam adjusts instantly to my body when I change positions.

What I noticed when I was filming this video was the difference in resistance between memory foam and latex foam as they were being compressed. The latex foam felt like it was giving a consistent amount of resistance or "push back" as it was being compressed. On the other hand, the memory foam had little resistance as I was compressing it.

Yes, this test was not very scientific, but the difference in resistance was noticeable as I compressed the foam by hand.

Considering what I felt was the difference between the two types of foam, I would say that the memory foam offers much less pressure relief than the natural latex once compressed. This means that if you sleep on a memory foam mattress, you might experience some discomfort in the hip, back and shoulder area because of the lack of support that the memory foam provides once it is compressed.

The natural latex offers much more pressure relief, hence the feeling of buoyancy that many people report when sleeping on natural latex foam for the first time.

Advantages of natural latex over memory foam:
• More durable than polyurethane and memory foam.
• More pressure relief
• More consistent resistance than polyurethane mattress foam. Less tendency to "bottom out".
• More breathable than memory foam thanks to the open cell structure.
• No chemical smell when new and will not off-gas VOC's into your home environment.
• Made from the sap of the Rubber Tree "Hevea Brasiliensis", a renewable resource.

Natural latex mattresses fall into two basic categories: Hybrid and all-foam. A hybrid natural latex mattress is a spring coil layer with one or more layers of foam on top. An all-foam mattress is several layers of foam, sometimes of different firmnesses, that are stacked on top of each other.

Thanks for the video! You think you could do a natural latex vs synthetic vs blended demonstration?

I want a support topper for my bed. I currently use a memory foam topper, but it's killing my lower back because of the slow response time. I'm thinking of buying a Sleep On Latex topper, but I'm torn between medium and firm. I'm a side sleeper and toss and turn a lot. Do you think a medium or firm topper would be better for back support?

Can't hear anything, think something is wrong with the sound quality.
