I watched it live, and thought that it was an accident. Sachin ran up to the crease, touched the crease with his bat extended from his body, at the same time Akhtar who was backing up the throw collided with Sachin. Sachin's bat, which was grounded, was forced away from the crease due to this collision and the throw hit the stumps. The TV Replays clearly showed that the bat was not grounded. But no replay would show you, how the bat got removed from the crease.

Both the teams knew what happened. Sachin, as he always does, kept his cool and accepted the decision. But the Pak players, they COMPLETELY IGNORED the fact that Sachin had grounded his bat before the collision, and his bat was removed only because of Akhtar collided with him.

In my opinion, if ever an opposition team needed to show Sportsman Spirit, that was the occasion. BUT THEY DIDN'T. Can't blame them for that, but had they withdrew their appeal, that would have been a GOLDEN DECISION.

Correction:
It was Wasim Bhai who was bowling and Sachin played a shot at mid on, Wasim Bhai was standing and Shoaib Akhter came to back up the throw of Nadeem Khan which was eventually ended up in direct hit.

It was freak. Sachin had grounded his bat but he i.e. his feet were not past the crease. But when Shoaib Akhtar removed the bails Sachin's bat was off the ground. Looking at the evidence the umpire had to give Sachin out.
Whether Shoaib deliberately pushed Sachin so that his bat was lifted off the ground is something only Shoaib and Sachin can tell. It could have been accident i.e. unintentional it could have been deliberate.

Shoaib Akhtar had come in Sachin's way deliberately. We saw that. People are not fools. Even replays show that he knew where Sachin was coming and deliberately came in his way. Shoaib has that type of mentality as he has revealed in his recent interviews also that he wanted to kill Sachin during a match in Pakistan. Not only that, he actually made a plan to hurt Sachin and executed it, albeit unsuccessfully.

Wasim Akram should have called Sachin back in the spirit of the game. That was not a great sportsmanship. I was on the ground that day when Sachin was dismissed. It was chaos and disaster.

I mean i remember similar incident with Ian Bell against India. The Great MS Dhoni did tale back the appeal.
