In this video, we discuss mission updates to the Mars InSight Lander. NASA's InSight Mission landed back in 2018, and has been studying the interior structure of the red planet. During this time, the HP3 experiment has had many difficulties digging into the Martian regolith. Therefore, the 'Bad News' is that NASA has officially ended attempts to get the probe the dig. The good news is that the mission has been extended for another two years, going to the end of 2022.

We also look at some of the scientific discoveries of the mission. Starting out by going over the basics of quakes. InSight has detected over 480 Marsquakes, all with a magnitude less than 3.7. This has come as a surprise to scientists, as some believed they should have detected larger events by this point. Additionally, the SEIS experiment has yet to detect a surface wave, which also raises many questions regarding how exactly these quakes are forming. There are multiple theories to why this is the case, but over the next two years, NASA hopes to learn more about the events. Lastly, InSight will listen for the Perseverance rover, to see if it can detect once it lands on the surface.

Thanks for watching! Do you think NASA will detect larger Marsquakes over the next 2 years?

A very good explanation for someone who is not familiar with these types of waves and seismometers.

The algorithm only just now showed me your channel. You are easily one of the best and most informative space YouTubers!

Awesome video man. Keep it up. You deserve waaaay more subscribers 🎉. Also fascinated by the fact that insight is gonna listen to perci when landing.

Here in Los Angeles, I have gotten pretty good at analyzing earthquakes in Los Angeles. If the P Wave hits hard, get down now, it is going be be a hard ride. Don’t wait for the S Wave. Just get down Next to the couch or Next to the bed. That’s were we are most of the time. Next, not under, because That is where the rescuers find the living survivors.

If I may make a slight adjustment. The _Richter magnitude_ is a scale originally specfic to the Wood-Anderson seismometer. A whole number jump on the Richter scale corresponds to a 10x increase in the _signal amplitude_ on the seismogram. That does not mean the earthquake is 10x "bigger" (whatever that means). Seismologist now use _moment magnitude._ A whole number jump in the seismic moment magnitude scale corresponds to a 32x increase in _energy released._

Nice and interesting Wolf... a good video...
However, IMHO, if you can change that background it would be a nice idea...even a normal room would be better than a kinda 80's horoscope background....and will give you a more professional appeal....
Looking fwd for ur next video...

Do You know much about tectonic movment on Mars ?
I understand that the core of Mars is beginning to solidify .
If we can prevent this from happening, we might be able to regenerate Mars to a warmer climate and regenerate an atmosephere .
However if the core has solidified past the point of return, then Mars is lost .
Any info You could give me on plate tectoics of Mars, would be greatly appreciated .
PS i found this video very informative . a thumbs up .

That is science and engineering for you. Now we know the surface is harder than we thought, and that the instrument is not suited for the job.

That was informative, but makes me wonder? What kind of Space Wave is the most destructive?

Could curiosity visit this lander and help clean the solar panels?
