'A Childhood Calling to the Priesthood' - Fr. Benedict Groeschel

Fr. Benedict Groeschel shares the heartfelt and unexpected story of how he first felt called to the priesthood at just seven years old. Inspired by the contrasting goodness and wickedness in Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and by the daily kindness of his second-grade teacher, Sister Theresa Maria, his life’s path began to unfold.

After witnessing Sister Theresa’s care for a sick woman, Fr. Groeschel recalls his own fearful yet transformative encounter. Running from his fright, he sought refuge at the altar of the Blessed Mother and thought: “If people were kinder to witches, maybe they wouldn’t be so bad.” At that moment, the sense of his vocation began to form.

Though he resisted, wanting to be a fireman instead, the affirmation of others—like Sister Consolata writing “Ora Pro Me” on a holy card—confirmed what God had placed in his heart. Fr. Groeschel reflects: “I’ve never thought, all those years, of being anything else.”

This story is a beautiful testament to the mystery of God’s calling, often revealed through ordinary yet profound moments of kindness and faith. 🙏
