I really connected with your quote "all that ever matters is that we keep moving towards the things that light us up." I'm taking the time to let that sink in and see where the light is shining. Thanks Ryder.

Hi Ryder,

I am from India,
In discussion about topic "result" our lord Shree Krishna said in Shree Bhagvad Geeta
" do your deeds as best you can do and don't expect results, result will automatically come as per your deeds, your control is on your deeds, not the results. "

You can plant trees but you can not control the things like, when leafs come, when fruits come or plants will grow or

Personally, what helps me is to also journal about my progress towards a goal, and to be open to changing plans or perhaps just modifying the plans slightly to tweak it into a right direction based on feedback. I think much of going after goals assumes there's only going to be one perfect plan made in the start, and it's a failure to not be able to accomplish that plan, but that's only the first draft of the plan before you even had the experience of going after a goal, not just thinking about it. I like to be open to writing down my observations of new obstacles, new insights, and new methodologies to explore when it comes to my own goals as I check for a regular progress report, which is depending on the goal, can be daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly.

This video is a hug. I really needded it. In this time of the year usually I get really excited, but this year I'm feeling more anxious than excited. I'm living in a moment of huge uncertainty and expectations. This is messing my head, my heart, my goals, and I don't really know how to overcome this. But seeing things the way you suggests can possibly make me more resilient to these changes. More stable. Stronger. I want to try seeing things this way. Thank you so much for your reflections.

Goals are the definition of an outcome, not the definition of success — I love that framework Ryder, thanks!

Exactly, spot on. This is why I’m focusing on wellness, rather than losing “x” amount of weight. Very non-dualistic thinking, framing your attitude as one of curiosity, non-grasping; & aiming for paradigm shift/identity in broader sense.

I really appreciate this video so much. Parker J. Palmer writes about faithfulness as an alternative to efficiency -- rather than breaking things down into smaller and smaller measurable tasks, we might instead ask ourselves whether, at the end of the day or even our lives, we have been faithful to our gifts and to the people around us. The lighthouse metaphor supports that idea for me really well.

This was SO good for me to hear. Even with SMART goals I do lose motivation when the other half of the equation doesn't work out and I tend to get defeated and give up.

Treating them as experiments was kind of mind blowing for me.

Also tracking habits / progress to ensure you're on the right path. If you aren't or something isn't working, it's okay to course correct... Aka follow a new light house.

Absolutely love it!

Goals as a continuum of life quality improvement..., my new definition! 🤯 I'm going to have to watch this vid a couple more times...example..."A goal is not an equation, it's a hypothesis." OMG

Finally, someone that spoke to why setting “goals” just hasn’t worked for me. I have always been a person more about process not an “end” in itself. I see that the process, if I am consistent, will help me to grow into what I want to be. I just couldn’t get excited about goals as it is usually phrased.

What great insights to our self-sabotage! In a class I'm taking they have us change our way of looking at our progress. Instead of asking in anger and frustration, "Why do I always do this" we need to approach it out of curiosity, "I wonder why I always do this"? Just this shift in my thinking keeps me from beating myself up and giving up on that which I set out to accomplish. So simple and brilliant. Thank you!

You explained it very well. I was unaware of you as a creator of Bullet Journal, and believed that those fancy and colourful artistic journals are original Bullet Journals. I am so grateful to find out the real aspects and use of bujo. I create my creative bujo to real bujo for 2023. Thank you again.

That was just brilliant. I've tried to capture every thought, because they were so well articulated. I've just reframed one of my goals, it looks so much better: still not easy, but kind of more flexible and therefore - fun and motivating. You've just changed my life (although I don't know to what extent yet). Thank you.

Good point: a goal is not an equation, it’s a hypothesis

Nothing is guaranteed, try anyway. Plan the work, and work the plan. Stop making excuses and just do it. There is no failure other than quitting, think of it as an attempt

Every bit of this helps put a different spin on setting goals. I've never heard it presented this way and I think it has the potential to be life-changing for me. Thank you, Ryder. Brilliant.

This goes great with the atomic habits idea of systems over goals. I’ve been trying to find a way to frame goals and also use systems this is fantastic Ryder thank you🙌😊

Whoa....precisely articulated a crucial missing piece! Indeed I HAVE crossed the finish line of a half-marathon only to struggle with continuing a running habit! And weight goals met...many many times only to regain it all back. The thrill of the attainment can be a hard stop, (& has many times for me). This is key!!! Thanks Ryder.

Really nice advices! I try to do some of these things and one that doesn't work very well for me is stopping the timer, because it is really likely that I will just extend so much my pause and abandon the task or staying up late at that night to complete and disturb all my sleeping routine hahah
So knowing that the clock is running I feel more obligated to come back soon, and more aware of how much time I really spent in that break. Also, I really like to work alongside of study with me videos on YouTube because they have breaks, usually 50 min of work and 10 min of break. And it helps me get my mind back in my body and go to the bathroom, get more water, etc. taking care of my health.
I will try to apply the "eat the frog " advice because it makes a lot of sense and I'm really procrastinating over some important tasks and it is consuming my mental health.
