blackcurrent is a native berry in the UK and Europe so the flavour is commonplace in foods and drinks, however it is not native anywhere in the Americas. Starburst in the UK was originally called Opal Fruits and was introduced in 1960 (US 1967 as Starburst), the name change came in 1998. There's no artificial colours or flavours in the UK version but the US Starburst has an animal by-product gelatin which doesn't make it suitable for vegetarians.
