Math 2318: Why Gaussian Elimination (or rref) works, Part 1

Here are 2 out of the 3 lemmas I need to "prove" why Gaussian elimination produces a reduced-row-echelon-form of an augmented matrix with EXACTLY the same solution set as the original. Along the way, I introduce elementary matrices and discuss why they are invertible.
