Xiaomi SU7 Max 673HP high speed CRASH onboard

The Xiaomi SU7 has been facing several hardware-related braking issues. One significant concern involves the brake pads, which have been criticized for being too small, making effective braking difficult, especially during emergency situations. This problem leads to longer stopping distances and increased skidding on slippery roads, contributing to accidents. Users have reported that normal braking performance is poor, causing dangerous situations under certain conditions.

Xiaomi has equipped the SU7 with high-performance Brembo brake calipers and NAO brake pads to balance comfort and performance, but some users still feel that the size of the pads isn't sufficient, particularly in certain configurations of the vehicle. These issues have been linked to accidents and raised concerns about the overall safety of the vehicle.

People not understanding how important his intentional swerving was to scrub speed after brake failure and to make sure his car hit the barrier not head on. Well done driver

Not to mention the driver seat broke on impact what kind of cheap "idgaf about the driver" r and d is that. Literally zero safety

Almost 700hp with 4 pot brembos…. And Honda civic sized pads… amazing.

Those gigantic calipers hiding the tiny brake pads are exactly what I would expect to see on a car like this.

To those who are wondering, I can share more details since I watched the original video.
He was testing a bunch of EVs on a race track, the test was specifically for the endurance. Apart from this Xiaomi, he also tested Ioniq5N, Tesla Model3, and Porsche Taycan. He specifically left Xiaomi at the end, knowing its brake pad were crap. The other EVs he tested were at least able to finish one lap without overheating here and there. However this Xiaomi, he only wished the car was able to finish just one lap.
Before he started the test, his buddy told him to "be safe". I'm pretty sure everyone knew the car would crash due to having huge weight, huge horsepower and tiny brake pad. Yet he still did the test, most likely he was asked to do so by the Xiaomi company as a commercial.
Though he was prepared, he still didn't expect the brake to COMPLETELY go away after just a few corners. In his own words "After a fraction of a second, I decided to do the swing instead of head collision, as it was my natural instinct as a racer". He also pointed out that for normal drivers, head-on collision might be the best choice since cars are built to withstand much more force headon than sideways.
This guy now have my 100% respect. Imagine driving at more than 200km/h and suddenly realizing brake is completely gone. I wouldn't have survived if I were him.

Impressive quick thinking and the ability to make split-second decisions – including intentional drifting to minimize the impact. Respect!

For a moment i was like "what you mean undersized, look the size of that caliper" them he showed the pads the size of pads you would find in a sub 100HP ecobox from Fiat lol

wonderfully quick thinking and skill to make the split second decision and intentionally drift in hopes to reduce the impact. respect.

Why is there more than 1 comment saying the seat breaking is a feature? If the seat fails, your spine becomes the crumple zone. A normal seat should be as rigid and as strong as possible (along with the cabin), while everything outside of that needs to be able to crumple enough to absorb the energy. This was a failure, full-stop

Chinese bots saying that the seat breaking saved his back are hilarious

Wow. I have never seen such a small pad on such a large caliper. My 30 year old Jeep has bigger pads than that. 😂

Chinese car moment
Love the lack of airbag deployment, seat breaking, and brake failure
(Edit: I now understand that airbags can be dangerous with helmets on, but that doesn’t excuse the other two issues. Remember, this is a Chinese car. They’re _ALL_ about corner cutting and being a total POS)

Wow. Well done driver. Thinking that quickly and making the car spin out intentionally as to not have a head on collision is really impressive

What a good driver (racing pilot). When he realised the breaks didn't work he used a technique to slow down the car by going sideways and managed to rotate the car almost 180 degrees before the impact. Respect!

Former brake engineer here. They did very little brake tuning along with electric motor and they couldnt get the big brake pads to not squeal when used lightly. They decided that the easy fix is to put an unholy sized J chamfer to reduce the braking surface to allow for a higher pressure engagement at low braking requirement. This makes sure that the brake pads are grabbing rotor hard enough not to squeal but does not require significant regen-manual brake tuning. At the end of the day that tiny brake pad surface caused significant brake fade to crash

It's a pity. The car with the most beautiful exterior design has serious and very dangerous hardware issues.

Sending the car into a slide after the brake failure. 200iq, fast thinking.

The airbags are working really well - like the driver seat! Very stable.Well designed!
