an annotation wilbur made on genius
(tw// mentions of suicide)

“This is a song about how much I’ve come to dislike living in London. Since moving there I managed to get this horrid phlegmy cough for 2 years straight, doctor’s confirmed it was pollution caused. Later on I started to exhibit signs of asthma. Unfortunately, I’ve not managed to escape yet but hopefully I shall sometime soon (hopefully somewhere more sunny).

The song takes a rather dark turn at the end, after experiencing people take their lives on the London underground only to receive disgruntled groans by commuters who will now be late for whatever it is they’re going to, one becomes quite jaded to the human condition in general. I guess this last line was me putting blame on the city rather than those commuters or the poor people who commited suicide.”

Near the middle part he sounded like almost crying
you could literally hear the amount of pain in his voice and it hurts me so much

the fact that he actually got asthma from london's pollution and that he watched a suicide at jubilee line just makes it so much sadder, and when the guitar gets louder and the train sound suddenly cuts off i think thats the veiwpoint of the person who commited suicide... this song hits hard

"'Cause the walls don't fucking love you"

That line alone makes me ache.

the line “wasting your time, wasting mine” is heartbreaking. it shows how desensitised people are about this kinda thing due to the it being so frequent. they care more about being late to work than people suffering and committing.

hey whoever reads this, i’m proud of you for making it this far, i’m not sure why you came to listen to this song, maybe to feel sad, or feel comforted, or just feel in general but hey no matter what emotions you’re feeling i can guarantee that if the emotion is negative that it will get better, and if the emotion is positive, then i can promise you’ll feel the exact feeling you’re feeling right now again, have a good day <33

Can we just talk about how good of a person Wilbur is.

I’m shocked at how many people didn’t know the meaning to this song. Didnt the lyrics “there’s a reason that London puts barriers on the rails” give a hint? Not trying to be mean by the way, ,

“Cause the walls don’t fucking love you” as a train gets louder and is cut off, as if the person hearing the train suddenly died. That hit so hard when I first heard it. It actually scared me because he sounds like a weeping ghost, a victim before that and it just conveys so much.

TW//suicide// i keep crying to this. I remember in the start 2020 I bought a ticket specifically to jump in front of a train on the jubilee line and I was listening to this and then I remembered if I die I can't listen to Wilburs amazing voice, there was also a mom with her kid there and she clearly saw the state I was in and pulled me aside to talk to me and her kid hugged me 🥺🥺🥺

I used to want to live in London but now hearing this song, I'm not so sure about it anymore. London is just terrible about pollution and the fact that gave Wilbur a Cough and asthma is just, I don't even have words for it
