One minute silence at the EU Parliament after Charlie Hebdo attack – Dimitrios Papadimoulis: It is sad and disgraceful that the Greek Prime Minister tries to use the attack for political purposes

The European Parliament honoured on Thursday the 12 people killed in the attack on the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine in Paris by observing a minute of silence. Meanwhile, the EU flew flags at half-mast, while hundreds of people – MEPs EU workers and other people – gathered in the rain in Brussels outside of the parliament, while some of them carried banners reading: “Je suis Charlie” (i.e. I am Charlie). The President of the EU Parliament Martin Schulz expressed his solidarity and sent his condolences towards the families of the victims, as well as the French people.

On behalf of SYRIZA, Dimitrios Papadimoulis said "The murderous attack against Charlie Hebdo is an act of fascism. The solidarity towards the French people, the arrest and the severe punishment of the criminals are matters of democracy.”
Regarding the attempt of Antonis Samaras to exploit the attack for political purposes, ahead of the Greek general elections, the Vice President of the EU Parliament added: “Efforts to take advantage of this attack and play dirty political games in Greece, using a right-wing agenda, as the Greek Prime Minister does, are disgraceful and sad."

Μία μέρα μετά την επίθεση στο γαλλικό σατιρικό περιοδικό Charlie Hebdo στο Παρίσι που στοίχισε τη ζωή σε 12 άτομα, το Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο αποφάσισε να κρατήσει μεσίστιες τις σημαίες του στις Βρυξέλλες, καθώς και να τηρήσει ενός λεπτού σιγή προς τιμήν των θυμάτων. Ευρωβουλευτές, εργαζόμενοι στην ΕΕ καθώς και απλοί πολίτες μαζεύτηκαν υπό βροχή για να εκφράσουν τη θλίψη και τη συμπαράστασή τους – πολλοί από αυτούς κρατώντας αφίσες που έγραφαν: «Je suis Charlie» (δλδ «Είμαι κι εγώ Τσαρλί», αναφερόμενοι στο Περιοδικό). Ο Πρόεδρος του Ευρωκοινοβουλίου Μάρτιν Σουλτς, δήλωσε στο συγκεντρωμένο πλήθος την αλληλεγγύη του στις οικογένειες των θυμάτων και στο γαλλικό λαό, εκφράζοντας παράλληλα τα συλλυπητήριά του.
Εκ μέρους του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ ο Δημήτρης Παπαδημούλης δήλωσε: «Η δολοφονική επίθεση εναντίον του Charlie Hebdo είναι φασισμός. Η αλληλεγγύη απέναντι στο γαλλικό λαό, η σύλληψη και η αυστηρή τιμωρία των ενόχων είναι υπόθεση δημοκρατίας.»
Όσο για την προσπάθεια κομματικής εκμετάλλευσης από τον Αντώνη Σαμαρά, ο Αντιπρόεδρος του Ευρωκοινοβουλίου τόνισε ότι: «Το να προσπαθεί κανείς από αυτή την επίθεση να παίξει βρώμικα πολιτικά παιχνίδια στην Ελλάδα, με ακροδεξιά ατζέντα, όπως ο Έλληνας πρωθυπουργός είναι άθλιο και θλιβερό.»
