Mike Mentzer clearly defined every term he used. He was a real scientist.

‘This is where you turn on the growth mechanism’. Brother I would go to war if Mentzer said this to me.

Bro has a proper definition of "training to failure". Truly a professor of bodybuilding

Fighting the eccentric when you have no more reps in reserves is probably good to make the most of that failure rep but every rep before you can have an eccentric much faster as long as it’s controlled so even something like 1 second long is fine

Making each rep painfully slow doesn’t meaningfully help growth especially if it hurts the amount of reps you can do

Training to failure the same muscle everyday is OVERTRAINING.
you should train different muscles on different days to failure 5/6 days a week and take a rest day.

That's how building muscle works. (in my experience)

Mikes failure meant "beyond failure" in todays bodybuilding. Thats where most people fk up. You can train to failure and have a high volume. But if you train to true failure where you cant move your arm anymore is when you cant and should avoid do more than few sets. Either way which method you choose you need to train close to failure to grow. That "2-3 reps in reserve" in bs unless you do warmup set.

I squeeze and flex/hold tight in every workout now and I'll tell you I look so much different in 6 months than the 3 years I wasted just throwing weight around.
