Ben Carson Wants To Police Colleges For Liberal Bias

Most of the Republican candidates would like to kill the Department of Education, but not Ben Carson. He has other plans for it. John Iadarola (Think Tank), Jayar Jackson, and Elliot Hill (The Lip TV), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"Ben Carson says he would not get rid of the Department of Education, a position contrary to several of his Republican White House primary rivals.

Instead, the retired neurosurgeon said the agency should be used to monitor America’s colleges and universities for “extreme political bias.”
“I actually have something I would use the Department of Education to do,” Carson said on Glenn Beck’s radio show on Wednesday...

“No, it would be to monitor our institutions of higher education for extreme political bias and deny federal funding if it exists,” he responded."*

My government teacher has a major conservative bias, going as far as calling me a communist for supporting Bernie Sanders. Bias goes both ways people.

In my experience in 1 1/2 years in University, I haven't had a single teacher with a liberal bias. Obviously I could tell that some of them were more progressive than others, but most I couldn't possibly tell who they'd vote for. The reality is, is that history is progressive, and in 50 years it wont be bias for teachers to openly call homophobes bigots, because conservative values always end up being the antithesis of a future moral standard. In short, history has a progressive bias.

So does that mean he is going to shut down Liberty University.

He might as well be saying "Think like me, or else!" no dissent allowed. This must be the tyranny that conservatives cry so much about.

Progressive authoritarian bias is an actual problem in universities.

We should have nothing but national standards. The state level boards of education should just be involved in implementing them. They should have zero control of any curriculum on the state, county or local level. Allowing that is how we end up with Creationism in the science classrooms. No one without a education degree should be allowed on a board of education. We need to educate our children not indoctrinate them into theism and ignorance. Lastly we should have mandatory age appropriate sex education beginning in grammar school. Knowledge will move our nation forward. The regressives want to push us back into the 19th century. No person that doesn't grasp biology should be elected president.

I'm a liberal and not a conservative by any stretch of the imagination - but TYT has it wrong here. I've read Carson's book, the dude is an independent, he criticizes both Democrats and Republicans in his book (He used to be a Demo), but in modern politics, you have to run for either or, or you won't be president. This isn't to say he isn't a right-leaning independent. That's transparent. But to say he wouldn't scrutinize side-supply economics is wrong, because he does in his books. He says not all regulation is bad and is needed in some sectors - same goes for free-market capitalism.

That being said, he does say some questionable stuff. On this occasion, he simply said policing university bias, that can easily be conservative bias taught by professors or the school itself, or liberal ideas. There needs to be a freedom of thought, not ideologies shoved down students heads. I've been subscribed to TYT since 2010 or so, and i'm starting to notice how bias they actually are and the same tactics Republicans use to denounce Liberals, they are doing themselves.

There definitely is a liberal and progressive bias in colleges. There's a bias in faculty as well as a bias when deciding which speaker and what kind of speech is allowed a platform.
There's also a major bias in what is considered "hate speech", and therefore not allowed on campus.

_"They would encourage students to rat out their teachers. And that's what we see now; _*_generally conservative students_*_ will write editorials or try to contact their congressman"_

You can't be saying that with a straight face in the age of public shaming and witch hunting carried out on social media and progressive websites *by progressives*.

Colleges are already being policed; by the PC police and progressive (regressive) authoritarians who brand anything that doesn't align to their views as "offensive", "hate speech", "problematic", and therefore unacceptable in a college campus.

once again the neurosurgeon showing that he can fix the hell out of a brain, but can't come to grips with the fact that outside of the operating madulla oblongata is obviously not functioning properly!

I can just see a math teacher getting fired for "being too liberal" or "teaching facts" as I call it.

One simple solution would be to make it illegal to discriminate against faculty applicants on a basis of political orientation. Currently, the universities almost universally discriminate against conservative students and conservatives applying for faculty positions.
