There might not be a watch brand with a greater reach than Seiko. I mean, what other brand offers reliable, $100 automatic watches and half million dollar tourbillons made of the most exotic materials and crafted using artisanal Japanese techniques that date back centuries? No one, no other brand does that. But how did they become so ubiquitous? Today, we’re taking a look at the history of Seiko.

Loved the history of Seiko, Thanks. Back in 1969 when I was 16 years old I bought my very first new watch. It was a Seiko 5. Over time it stopped working but I kept the watch for sentimental reasons. Earlier this year I had complete service and repair done for $275. Even the watch repair guy said I can buy a nice new Seiko for that price. I'm glad I had this watch repaired. I do own Omegas, Rolex and others but this 50 year old Seiko holds a special place in my heart.

You know why people love Seiko? because it stayed true to its brand mission and vision unlike other brands that try to sell you Status, Luxury or Investment, Seiko just sells you Good Quality & Affordable watches that anyone can wear. The answer the NEED of people for watches not the WANT aspect.

My mom has 11 Seiko watches. I just thought she had watch issues. I had no clue there was an actual reason she loved them so much. This was pretty interesting.

Whether you did this cut at 12:00 on purpose or accident. I loved it! Little things like this will make your video unique.

A good video Teddy. One thing to add is that in 1983 Seiko introduced the first analog quartz chronograph. And their 6139 Speedtimer was the first auto chrono in space thanks to Col. Pogue

I got my first Seiko today for Christmas and I’m in love with it. You can really see the quality. Nicest watch I’ve gotten by far!

Absolutely wonderful video. Thanks to Seiko (and Teddy too) for providing such amazing time pieces that are also affordable, provided a gateway into mechanical watches.

Who's watching this with a Seiko on their wrists?

Excellent video. While no quarter-hour piece can cover all of Seiko's history, this sure is a fine appetizer, an intro to the world of Seiko.

This is my favorite of all of your videos because I love history, I love Japan, and because my father had a Seiko automatic in the 1970's that captured my imagination as a kid. Thanks very much!

Great video. Suspect the horological world of Japan is not as well documented as Switzerland and therefore a bit of work went into this piece, Well done Sir!

Great video, I'm a big GS fan and knowing it's origins makes me a fan of Seiko too. Just don't tell Paul Pluta lol. Good work and greetings from South Africa, Johannesburg. Recently just got a GS "First" and GS "Snowflake", in love with them!

Excellent video, I thought you would bring up the Swiss watch accuracy competition that was discontinued after Grand Seiko came in first! Great video about a great brand.

Great video. Seiko isn't for everyone but imo the brand deserves respect, whether or not their watches give you the fizz. Liking to wear one is all a matter of personal preference but I think quality is a bit less subjective.

I enjoy these videos. You do an excellent job. One of the most interesting moments in the history of any business is when they move from craft manufacturing (each worker produces an entire unit) to industrial manufacturing, with the division of labor. Say, John Deere, or Ford, or BMW.

Great video Teddy! I'd love a video on Credor, the brand seems very hush-hush

I have a Seiko Bell-matic 4006-7010 grey dial on the way. So much watch for so little money. If Seiko offer more robust options for Spring Drive at 38mm I'd be over the moon!

My first Seiko is a Pogue with the gold face. Two more with one the automatic dive watch with a dark blue dial. Third a nice thin battery powered black dialed dress watch in stainless and gold with a diamond at the 12 O clock. All have been solid performers, stylish and accurate. Thank you for this video.
