About the Cemetery
OPENED IN 1839, HIGHGATE CEMETERY WENT INTO DECLINE IN THE 1970S BEFORE BEING RESCUED BY A CHARITY, THE FRIENDS OF HIGHGATE CEMETERY TRUST

Description
Highgate Cemetery is a place of burial in north London, England. It is designated Grade I on the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England. It is divided into two parts, named the East and West cemetery. It is notable both for some of the people buried there as well as for its de facto status as a nature reserve.

East Cemetery (where Karl Marx is buried) : £4 (10am to 5pm).

West Cemetery : £12 (guided tour only, includes admission to East Cemetery). Weekdays - 13:45 only, book online in advance. Weekends - 11am to 5pm, no booking

WEST CEMETERY
Nowhere captures better than Highgate Cemetery West the special atmosphere of the Victorian cemetery. Visit by guided tour only.

EAST CEMETERY
The most famous resident of Highgate Cemetery East is Karl Marx, whose monument attracts comrades and others from all over the world
