I have Returned to the Ancient Saxon Parish of Effingham off the A246 in Surrey for a look around the Village, the Church of St Lawerence’s and the Grave of Inventor Barnes Neville Wallis with Lunch back at ‘The Plough’.

I once took the wrong train, fell asleep (passed out...) and woke up and got off at Effingham Junction. Great memories.

Nothing beats the smell and coolness of an old church. Something that can't be replicated by these contemporary new builds.

Thank you for this. A branch of my ancestors came from Effingham, so it’s been nice to have a little look inside St Lawrence’s church

I always wondered where Effingham was located so this has answered that question ( think it was Lord Howard of Effingham that was leading the defences when the Armada attacked)
Pretty little village as they all seem to be in that area you’ve been visiting.
So glad 2 churches open. St Laurence’s was beautifully decorated for Christmas- not overdone! What a grey sombre day you had for the visit! Thanks Marq!

My mum and dad and my mums, mum and dad were married there. Also my grandparents are both buried at st Lawerence church.
