Covering 8,016 hectares of lush forest and bodies of water such as lakes and waterfalls, Balinsasayao is the only remaining rain forest in the island of Negros. It is highlighted in the Year of the Protected Areas (YoPA) campaign that encourages sustainable ecotourism activities to help conserve the Philippines’ protected areas.
YoPA is a campaign of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) of UNDP Philippines.
