You can get very similar charging times with the mobile charger and the NEMA 14-50 adaptor. It charges my Tesla in 2 hours from 50%. Why spend more when you can grab the 14-50 adaptor for $60 CAD. The only caveat is ensuring you have the correct outlet.

For anyone legitimately considering an ev, remember your car is at home for at least 8 hours while you sleep, probably closer to 10 or 12, so believe me, YOU DONT NEED A 60A Circuit. The mobile connector is a 40A L2 & it’s extremely close to that 60A and is also probably vast overkill. Assuming it makes the installation of the wiring significantly cheaper, I’d recommend getting a 30a circuit with a nema 14-30 connector, add in the $45 adapter and that will add plenty of range back for most people. With the model Y, that would be 168 miles over 8 hours (21mph charge rate) considering the average commute for Americans is less than 60 miles a day I’d call it overkill.

No need to get a wall charger. I got 240 outlet installed and use the adapter for my mobile charger and my model X charges to 100% over night. Saved so much money with this route.

At least the Y I just bought didn’t come with a mobile charger, which makes the wall charger an easier choice.

3 phrase 11.000 watts, 220v, soooo smooth

Why buy a wall charger. Get a 220 outlet installed in the garage. I use the mobile charger to plug in and in less than 7 hours it fully charges from 10%

Nema 14 50 ❤ from day 1 charge lowered manually to 23a didn't need any more. But if it's really hot inside your garage make sure you get a small fan directly on the charger box because it will get hot and drop charge down to 16a just add air flow nothing special. You will be fine

Since Tesla is upgrading their superchargers, can people buy the old superchargers and install it on their residence?

Just took delivery of a Y today and I was surprised there was no mobile 'granny' charger included.

You didn't talk about the mobile attachments for 220, which charges much faster than the 110v.

It's a wall connector, not wall charger. Technically its an electric vehicle supply equipment. The chargers are actually part of the car itself

Can mobile plug into a 240 dryer outlet and what is the maximum amperage that can flow through the mobile charger @240ACV?

No one has more home and Mobil chargers than me. All I recommend is UL approved and a "Stop Charge" feature on the charger itself. Good luck finding either.

Remember that the BMS while running and charging takes eats up 250W all the time. So when only charging 2000W a minimum of 12, 5% are losses.

When you’re going Tesla Wall Connector that 250W of 11000W are only 2, 2% in losses.

You American folks should consider the 40 bucks NEMA 14-50 Adaptor for you mobile Connection and get a nice 7.6 kw. Only 3 % losses, no installation hassle if NEMA 14-50 is already there and the charging solution remains mobile in case you move or something.

Hard wired is the SAFEST set-up and not that hard to do.
#6 gage individual wires in conduit with 60 AMP Breaker, NO ROMEX crap.

level 1 no permit needed. Level2 or 240v out let installation need permit and inspection. too much hassle. you pay up to 2.5k at front. this is suck. that 2.5k for super charge is better.

How are you getting 16Amps out of a 110v 15A circuit?

Why pay an electrician to install the charger? It's not hard to do.
