BTW, Look forward to the painting tutorial, I prefer plastic over metal and finecast for painting so interested how you get on with the metal model and how it turns out.

I agree; it's no different than GW saying "well Finecast may have bubbles and marred details but just greenstuff them!"--in some cases that's very hard for almost anyone (e.g. when you have to resculpt detail, and on this model specifically I can see that dealing with the mold line on the hair without messing up the hair around it might be a little bit challenging), and at any rate it's not acceptable to *require* most people to do it after paying a non-bargain-basement price for the model.

The "eagle head" is supposedly a bow, it's positioned on the right shoulder, at least from where i've seen a friend place. could be wrong though.

Avatars of War makes great miniatures. I have some of them myself, just for my shelf. One of their best sculpors, Felix Panigua, now works for GW, if I remember correctly.

If you enjoy modeling, it may not be that big of a deal. I actually enjoy the assembly process of multi-part metal miniatures.

for all those saying, "just pin and green stuff it on", I shouldnt have to go above and beyond to put together a model I already purchased. If it was to save money, they should have created a groove in the cut to provide a little extra security after gluing it on.

I bought the same few weeks ago :) I like the mini and I don't see an issue with the sword...you can pin it in the hand part of the miniature and glue that with green stuff layer between, it will hold good. I like AoW miniatures, too bad they don't produce wider range of models, just for some armies. It took some time to deliver the model for me as well, not sure why, but the AoW employee will reply on your emails if you require an update.

The height might have been a reason to put hand/sword seperately. Another reason might have been planned options for the hand.

I always thought the Avatars of War minis were better suited for display models

They casted it seperatly because it would be more expensive to package as larger packages would be needed.

I wonder if the swordhand was seperataed because A) it wouldn't fit in the blister or B) it would become too damaged during shipping (though I find that hard to beleive as I just got some Reaper's in with swords wrapped around necks that I had to unbend/straighten)

yes, a hobby knife for mold lines and blue and clippers. green stuff and hobby drill are and always have been extra and should never be required to complete a model. Hell even the high end model kits with some 100 plus pieces dont need more than glue and a hobby knife. i understand there are people who go the extra mile, however a basic kit straight from the box should not require the use of extra tools, only the option for such. I think thats the distinction you keep forgetting. You are

I prefer plastic as well, the plastic kits dont require anything but the normal materials to assembly a model.

If you invest so much time into reviewing and painting and working on these models and presenting them to us, you should also touch up your nailpolish :D

Just joking, good video, I have the dwarf berserker from them, awesome model.

and i enjoy assembly just as well as others, what I dont enjoy is doing extra stuff that is a choice in the assembly process, i.e. green stuff and pinning.

I fear that the cape will break off more often than the arm.

I recently purchased the Dark Elf Queen kit.  Any advice on how to pin the arms to the miniature?  Just wish the miniature was as good as the image on the store pages.  Would a White Army Painter work to base coat the mini?

but see thats the point. not every model is created with the idea of using extra techniques to create a secure model. Some people only enjoy painting the models.

I'd pin the hand and the cape. I'd also use epoxy for the joins, just to be safe.

not every model needs green stuff and pinning techniques. those were created to give a modeller extra options. Unfair to think a simple kit purchased by someone who just wants to paint or game with it should have the materials for extra hobby work.
