The peninsula of Drapetsona was a pasture with traces of ancient ruins on it. The two towers of the Eternal Gate, the foundation of a wall that covered the ancient seaport at Kremydarouss Bay, a foundation of a circular building to the west, in the area of the later fertilizer plant. Monuments include Themistocles' monument.

Η χερσόνησος της Δραπετσώνας ήταν ένας βοσκότοπος με τα ίχνη των αρχαίων ερειπίων επάνω της. Οι δύο πύργοι της Ηετιώνειας Πύλης, θεμέλιο τείχους που κάλυπτε τον αρχαίο ναύσταθμο στον όρμο Κρεμμυδαρούς, ένα θεμέλιο κυκλικού κτίσματος στα δυτικά, στην περιοχή του μετέπειτα εργοστασίου Λιπασμάτων. Το όνομα του Δήμου κατ' άλλους προέρχεται από την αρβανίτικη ονομασία του ρέματος και του κτηματία της περιοχής ντραπ (=ρέμα) + Τσώνης (ντραπιτσώνης, ντραπιτσώνα), ωστόσο σε χάρτες του 18ου και 19ου αιώνα η περιοχή εμφανίζεται ως DRAPEZON που πιθανότατα οφείλεται στο γεγονός ότι φιλοξενούσε πολλά ταφικά μνημεία και αποκαλεί το Τράπεζα (Τραπεζών). Μεταξύ των μνημείων συμπεριλαμβάνεται και το μνημείο του Θεμιστοκλή.
