South Africa received the first of 16 Single-seat interceptor and multi-role fighter Mirage F1CZs in 1975 for No. 3 Squadron at Waterkloof. They saw action in the confrontation with Angola until the coming of relative peace resulted in the squadron disbanding in September 1992 and putting its Mirages into storage.

I sat in the cockpit of CZ 213 which shot down a mig21. It was on display at thunder city Cape town at the time.
